About Us

Higham Architecture is a specialist in unique, residential architecture, both new homes and additions/alterations. With over 20 years experience and more than 30 design awards, designer Jason Higham prides himself on high quality architectural design and a personalised service to suit each client. Higham Architecture is Lifemark accredited, so Jason can help ensure your home design is accessible, adaptable and safe for your entire family now and in the future. Also certified as a Homestar Practitioner, sustainability aspects are important for Jason. Evidence of the quality of his service can be seen in the fact that many new clients approach Higham Architecture via word-of-mouth referrals. While the office is based in Rangiora, Jason is also regularly in Christchurch for site visits, client meetings, etc, so is well positioned to personally service the region. Examples of his work can be seen throughout Christchurch and the greater Canterbury region, including work in Banks Peninsula, West Melton, Templeton, Kaiapoi, West Eyreton, Cheviot, Waikari, and Hanmer Springs, as well as down in Wanaka.

Higham Architecture worked closely to design a huge external alteration in the Redwood area, Christchurch and this project is now complete the final result looks amazing! After building twice before without the help or guidance of an architect Jason made us feel very confident we would finally get what we wanted third time around. He followed our brief well and provided valuable detail to our plan and design that we would never have thought about ourselves. His inclusion and understanding of the Lifemark Design Standards were of great value to our design, house a family in years to come.

My wife and I bought a 1960s red brick, concrete tile house in 2012 with the intention of modernising it by recladding, reroofing and knocking out a few walls. We decided to involve an architectural designer in the process and after much research and several meetings we decided on Jason. His ability to provide 3D images that allowed you to “walk through” the house was ideal for my wife who had difficulty visualising off plans. We gave Jason a wish list of what we would like in the perfect place realising that you always have to compromise somewhere. You can imagine how surprise and pleasure when Jason managed to achieve everything on the wish list as well as making some really strategic changes, such as the repositioning of the entranceway, to achieve a first-class result. Two years down the track and we are still thrilled at the end result and how well it meets all out needs.

Jason was great to work with. We gave him a brief to design a house with light and warmth and with a view of the mountains. He asked for more details about what we liked and then we gave him free reign. He met all our expectations. The house is warm, full of light and very easy to live in and maintain. The view of the mountains is fantastic. Jason was always ready to answer any questions and work with us on the finer details.

We had the absolute pleasure of working with Jason of Higham Architecture. Living in our home for 2 years now, we are extremely happy with the design he produced for us. We are confident that it not only suits our lifestyle today with 2 small children, it is a design that we can see ourselves enjoying in many years to come. Jason was extremely knowledgeable and approachable with an impeccable eye for detail. We felt confident that Jason took on board our wish list in our first meeting and when he presented us with our first draft he took our vision to a whole new level. We found his communication to be friendly, prompt and professional. Whatever Jason offered or discussed with us, he followed through with and we couldn't ask for better than that. Jason was very respectable of timelines and kept in touch with us throughout our build showing genuine interest in the building process and finishing touches we chose to complete the design. We would have no hesitation in recommending Jason.

Commented: How does this work? Is it unique or widely available?This is a custom shower I designed, so is not something you can just buy off the shelf unfortunately. When the shower is not in use (about 95% of the day), the doors are folded back against the side w...
