In February 2011, there was a large earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our lovely character home was badly damaged, as were tens of thousands of other houses. Our house was beyond repair, and will eventually be demolished and entirely rebuilt (fingers crossed for this year!).

We would really like to preserve the memory of the house through some creative or artistic projects that we can use in the new house. We can't easily reuse any of the building materials, and we don't want to build the projects into the new house, since we would want to be able to take any 'memorabilia' with us if we move in the future, and it wouldn't have the same meaning for a future buyer.

So far, we have salvaged an old cabinet door that had graffiti scratched into the back of it by the son of the original owner, many decades ago, and are having it painted by a graphic designer, preserving the original graffiti.

I'd like any creative ideas you have for other things we could salvage from the house and how we could use them to create a unique and meaningful artwork. I was thinking one of the glass paneled doors, but don't know what I'd do with it!
