Need ideas for small beach house update

I have a small beach house with wooden walls and would like to update to a fresher, trendier look. the obvious thing is to paint the walls white but was looking for ideas to leave the wood natural. I have old blue drapes and carpet in a brown colour.
It is a style called Lockwood in New Zealand.

It's always a pleasure to see a style we're not familiar with and as an American living in Texas, I'm at a loss to know what the Lockwood style in New Zealand looks like. Can you please supply us with pictures? I presume you mean the interior walls, but if I'm wrong, please let me know. Are you willing to get rid of the old blue draperies and brown carpet? What is on the floor?

hi I will dig out some photos, yes will get rid of drapes and flooring. Was thinking about timber look flooring but maybe too much timber, or seagrass matting and lighten up with white drapes or blinds.
and yes interior walls..

It's refreshing to see nautical, navy BLUE. Everyone is saying the same thing for the most part - just introduce another color, definitely bright (yellow or orange IMO) and it will make it more current. What I really like is how your style will withstand the test of time - and with minor updates now and then it will always look fresh and "current".

Perhaps a colored door if you paint the home grey. Maybe Red? You could simulate a color change on door by hanging something over the door that is the color like a tablecloth or piece of fabric. If you search houzz for" grey homes", you can see what others have done. My home is painted Cape Cod Grey with white trim and it has been very easy to live with for years. I have a dark grey roof.

How about a horizontal weave-style fence for privacy, plenty of seating for dining and relaxing, with separate sections for each function. Moving the trees is a good idea, to open up the entire space.

I love seagrass on the floor, and white draperies, particularly those made from canvas, would look great in a beach house.

I, too, would love to see pix of your beach house. I have a townhouse in Florida and am in the process of decorating it. One idea I have come across, and have been thinking of incorporating, is using painter's canvas dropcloths for an inexpensive, yet beachy, look. They can be washed to soften them up and used as bedcovers or throws over older upholstered furniture. They can be used as drapery or shower curtains by adding clip rings. They can even be used as floorcloths or wall hangings. Hope you can use at least one of these ideas!
