MainStreet Design Build recently completed an
exterior renovation of a Southeast Michigan home, transforming it from a post-war,
plain bungalow into a charming cottage.
Before the renovation,
the bungalow presented a less-than-friendly façade. The stone and brick were in
great condition, but the nondescript porch and plain clapboard siding gave the
front exterior very little personality.
Always up for a challenge, MainStreet created a design
that would turn this dull home into an enchanting cottage straight out of a
fairy tale.
The
design team’s exterior enhancements included a new roof, red shutters,
energy-efficient windows, and a beautiful new front porch. MainStreet designed the new pitched-roof entry portico to align with the roofline of the main gable in
order to create a whimsical and welcoming entryway.
Red shutters and window boxes with matching corbels
enhance the cottage-like feel. Pleated copper roofing on the front window and
side door serve to add interest and draw the eye in. The effect is a
lovely and imaginative exterior that has quickly become the envy of the entire
neighborhood.
