Here is our big dining/family room...I am currently trying to find a curtain fabric that looks like it belongs. What do you reckon...dark or light colour? patterned, striped or plain?
First, let's start by removing the white office chair that's at the table, it looks like the 300 pound elephant in the room! Your sofa (?) seems to be a love seat with a matching chair but the chair isn't the same size - I'd put the chair by the window where the two dark dining room chairs are and remove those altogether. Also remove the red/orange chair.
For curtains I would stay with a light color and I wouldn't use a pattern, there's already so much going on in that big room!
It is hard to make a suggestion since things are fairly disjointed. You have many colors and styles happening. Overhead lighting distorts things. You need lamp light instead. Is this a commercial property? Are the big brown wall and carpet staying?
Yes, the brown wall is actually deep purple (aubergine). The carpet is more dark grey than brown. It is not a commercial place, but a large family home, and all the extra chairs are around because we were about to have 22 in for dinner, so the table was fully extended to it's 6metres! (The lounge is totally separate to this room, this is family space, so has the old sofas for sacking out on)
But I really appreciate all suggestions and comments as it would be good to pull it together, even when entertaining so many. Cheers!
