Dining room soulless

Hi, I would appreciate some help. This is my new dining room, I'm thrilled with the cream tiles and the beige/cream stripe wallpaper, but it feels lifeless and cold (doesn't help its winter too!) I'm planning on using an wood oblong antique library table with antique wooden hall chairs. It's attached to a white kitchen and white bench top. The only colour other than the black appliances are two vivid yellow/chrome bar stools. There will be plantation shutters on the windows. I'm thinking about a rug and maybe some voiles. Any ideas are greatly appreciated

It isn't cold, so much as empty. All will be well once the wood is added to warm things up. Make sure you have enough room to keep chairs on rug before you purchase -. I sense your entire floor will be covered in that instance. Nix the sheers. If it still feels cold after furnishing andshutters are added, consider topiary in the far corners, and a splash of colour on the table. Good luck.

The traditional wallpaper is a real style clash with the contemporary cabinets, and the undertones don't match either the cabinets or floor. Pick one to keep, and get rid of the other. Then pick something with some actual color to replace it.

Beautiful table. I don't particularly like the metal/cane chairs. Too 'light' in appearance. Do you use the chairs by the window? I think they are too close to the table and they are too big in comparison. Could be the angle of the photos though, may look different in real life. I don't think your ceiling is too low to hang a pendant above the table. How do you change the table position? If you only turn it around, you can still keep it centered under a light. If you move it to the wall it's another story of course. The two paintings above the console should be hung lower and I prefer them on one level. You can add table lamps on the console and a floor lamp in the corner between the windows. If you use the two chairs, I would add a table in between and angle the chairs a bit. I'll see if I can find you other dining chair options.

I would get a better chandalier with better lighting and IMO DRs do not have to be bright as they are mostly used in the evening.

I think, like you said, due to the fact that there's a larger space when it comes to the hotel lobbies is the reason as to why it works. I think that no matter what you put on the walls (whether it be concrete or marble) will result in tiles not working out. The industrial look tends to be exposed brickwork anyway, or cream or white colours so maybe that's an option you could look into. What did you end up doing?

congrats on your new home kitchen and dining do look wonderful. it is a good thing you said it is beige, because it looks totally gray and white.

have you thought about having at least one build in. Also i think brighter fabric, up/down romans would good. i will see if i have some examples:

I like having shelves going up the thin wall and that red would go too

Yellow and gray are a very pretty combo, and I would develop that big time! Incorporate some light yellows and medium grays for depth and character. Gray is a cool color, and that's probably why the room feels cold to you. I agree that once you get a rug, furniture, and drapes, it will all come together! Add some real plants in here as well (if you have a green thumb) to add warmth.

Hi havingfun I'm In Wellington New Zealand, The area has lots of 100+ year old houses, so I'm trying to fit in but also get a modern feel. I saw a rug today and it's really out there, but I'm very scared it's too over the top when I have it sitting under antique furniture. I'll add a pic

Love the features your are pointing out as well. I would keep the look galm, clean, and i do no see that a rug is neassesery.

Bring in som modern chairs to fit the design of the kitchen. You could maybe paint the dining table or add a white or grey table clotth sometimes to keep the white througout the entire room. Run silver grey tones, in the vinter and bring in colors to match the other seasons. Flowers are always bringing in life in to a home. Visit pinterest for DIY dining table decoration and update regularly. decorade centerpiece on a mirror.

Lighting is essentiel, so pick some warm lighting and do not be affraid to go big.

It is gorgeous and your furniture choices sound wonderful. Maybe a chandelier and a colorful area rug would do the trick!

I like both of those rugs, but the first will repeat the yellow of your bar stools so it's probably the better choice. You're going to end up with an eclectic space, so it's important to make sure that things relate to each other.

Much as I love plantation shutters, you might want to rethink them in this small room. Unless you plan to leave them open most of the time, I think the space may end up feeling claustrophobic.

I would wait for the rug, until you have the shutters up and your furniture placed..it may take on a character of its own and you'll want to compliment. My first thought though was to coordinate with your kitchen and incorporate some black, with a black/beige stripped rug, which would be fun with the wallpaper and perhaps paint your chairs black, add the shutters and you could paint the window trim black and add a large black chandelier.

Shelly, it can't possibly be soulless with an antique library table. But I agree with Maureen about waiting to accessorize. That table is going to bring a lot of warmth and you may find you want to go a whole different direction.
