Walk in wardrobe! I would love a walk-in - all the visibility and space to try things on!

I'm going to wax a bit philosophical here. I've lived in many different houses in many different countries and one of the things I've come to recognize is how poorly most of those houses and flats were when it came to using space. Big lounges, big dining rooms, wide hallways, several spare bedrooms, spaces seldom fully used and some hardly used at all. What is the point of a small family having both a family room they use, and a lounge they don't use except at Christmas? Most of those places had all sorts of empty space, just sitting there, decorative but pointless in terms of actual daily functionality.

I want a house in which every square inch has a function and purpose, and is used on a regular basis. So, I would go for a good functional walk-in robe every day of the week, because it will be used, and slice a few centimeters or inches of the big lounge/dining room/spare bedroom that is hardly ever used at all.

jmm1837, that's a really interesting comparison. I too am not a fan of homes where you can lose each other and harbour discontent away from each other- I prefer the good old days when we had to share the TV, be quiet because someone was on the phone and the house was so small there was nowhere to disappear to. You just had to learn tolerance. I confess to appreciating generous hallways though and high ceilings- I agree --have what you need and have it well.
