hey guys
so my house is pretty much all planed and designed, NOW gotta pick the colours and bricks etc....
please help

So currently

For the top Floor im using RESENE ARMADILLO

Ground Floor Render - Unlimted Space Dulux

Bessa Block - Steel(light) or Ivory (dark)

garage door - NIGHT SKY BLACK ?

Hi Tyrone_Topsecret. I think the dark at top with the light colour under works very well - let's the upper floor disengage and float above everything, which makes it so stunning. Your render picture shows a texture effect on the matrix which is nice - if you go for a solid colour there that'll appear very different to what you see at the moment - would still work of course, but I'd probably try and do a 'marble' texture effect like that (if within budget). If it was me, I would blend the bessa in with the render colour at the bottom, so either paint the blocks to match the render, or why don't you do it the other way around and match the render colour to the natural block colour? That could work well.

I don't know the Resene colour you mention, attached is a picture with a Monument colorbond roof, and the little link building we've done in a Dulux colour matched to Monument - so it works quite well as a contrast without being too stark against an (off-)white. I wouldn't go the night sky, it is quite stark (and cold) as a colour, where as with a softer/warmer dark grey it all becomes more harmonious.

Not sure about the garage door : You are currently drawing attention to it by matching it to the colour of the upstairs - I would recommend to try and guide the view to upstairs instead, and therefore blend the garage door in with the surrounding surfaces.

So Bessa natural, render to match, garage door in a warm white, and then the dark grey upstairs - will be a stunner :-)

I thought from the little photo (on my phone) it was all finished!!
I think if you do the bricks dark it will all look too heavy and solid, there won't be much difference between the whole garage section and the beautiful upstairs.
Have you thought about a mid-
colour, not too different from the bricks, or even leaving them grey? I'm sure I've seen a few houses recently with this ...

Our darkest exterior colour is Dulux Mount Eden, and the mid grey colour is Dulux Shale Grey. Garage door, gutters, etc are Colorbond Monument.

The more I look at your photo, the more I like the bricks as they are!! I know in real life sometimes things look a little different, of course you don't want every second (dopey) person to ask when you'll be doing the rest of your painting!

Can you leave it for a while and see?

What a fantastic architecture. When you do the brick, if you stain it with masonry /concrete stain you won't have the same issues of maintenance as with paint. They will spray it evenly - through you will have to select a deeper color - either taupe (brown-gray) or a straight charcoal. Love your windows and the classic angled railing. I think a dark gray on the siding will make the orange brick jump even more. What bothers me is the white (railing, fascia, eaves) juxtaposed with the earth toned stuff. So I would recommend camel tones - for the siding - something like http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW6108-latte/ and the hopsack next darker tone for the garage door. Use the lighter tan for trim that is now white - http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW6107-nomadic-desert/ Use the darkest tone if you are painting concrete steps. If you think you will stain your brick charcoal, then the white eaves and trim are probably right, and you may not want to paint it tan now and then go back. If your brick were charcoal, then I would block out the rest in grays and blue grays - leave the white eaves, but take the railing and posts charcoal too. A blue gray door - like sw smoky blue.

Buy the bedding you love and then go from there to doing the rest of the space, paint is cheap so leave it till the end of the process and match to something in the bedding would be my suggestion.

Personally , I wouldn't use that wallpaper -- it doesn't suit the apartment style IMO . I assume she wanted to add some focus and colour , but to me it doesn't work . To make it work ( or at least not 'jar' ) if she does insist on the wallpaper , pick out the burgundy or red of the wattle flower ( or whatever it is ) , and do a wall opposite it in that exact same shade , or maybe the kitchen area if you have good masking skills . The animal skin rugs look great , but the couch is 'lost' -- add cushions in the same red or burgundy as the wall , or go even brighter red or burgundy . Rest of the walls can be left as they are ( depending on wall condition ) or any similar neutral ( aka bland ) grey or cream , or possibly even a light steel blue .

We are just about to start building, just waiting for the council approval. It looks like two cubes placed next to each other, one is two story and the whole thing is going to be rendered and pained monument. I love the dark.

I prefer dark on bottom light on top as otherwise top looks too heavy

I would match the bricks to the colour of the render, the change intexture will be enough to provide the point of difference. Try Resene Wan White on the bottom and the dark garage door will pop!

Very nice - I like the strong clear lines your house has there. You could keep your colour scheme "Classic Neutral" by continuing the render or choosing a very light colour. It would compliment the architecture of the house just perfectly.
Another option would be to really go colour. The clear design of the house (reminds me of Bauhaus Style) certainly allows for that. Top of my mind would be a soft teal/ocean blue colour to go with that beautiful colour of the wood framing. I would settle for a broken colour (mixed with small amount of a darker shade) instead a pure colour. As an overall colour intensity I would choose one from the mid-to-light range to balance out the dark top floor and the dark garage door.

i would prefer darker colours on the bottom for a more grounded feel with a grey sky of nature would it change your colour choices??

how much do you think that marble texture would cost?

the besser brick im deciding on is either ebony or steel from adbri masonary

i like the idea of shale gray for the render
and mount eden for the top floor?

Does the front face north? If the garage door is dark, then the garage will heat up in summer. It will make a huge difference, especially if the garage leads into the house.
