Love this kitchen. Interested in the finishes

To clarify - the dark brown cabinets are tassie oak and stained? What about the breakfast bar? Also, with the white cabinetry is it pvc edged, vinyl wrap or 2-PAC? Really appreciate your responses. Thanks in advance!

Dining room finishing

Beautiful table. I don't particularly like the metal/cane chairs. Too 'light' in appearance. Do you use the chairs by the window? I think they are too close to the table and they are too big in comparison. Could be the angle of the photos though, may look different in real life. I don't think your ceiling is too low to hang a pendant above the table. How do you change the table position? If you only turn it around, you can still keep it centered under a light. If you move it to the wall it's another story of course. The two paintings above the console should be hung lower and I prefer them on one level. You can add table lamps on the console and a floor lamp in the corner between the windows. If you use the two chairs, I would add a table in between and angle the chairs a bit. I'll see if I can find you other dining chair options.

Kitchen colour advice?

Hi Dalene, the colour is technically not black but a dark charcoal grey. Anything in that colour tone paired with a timber benchtop will steer towards that industrial look - just use a lighter shade of a cool grey (similar to the one in the Garden St Residence) and perhaps bring in some black accents in the tapware and drawer handles for some punch.

Having been brought up in a Lockwood home I can appreciate your love of the wood. I notice you have a light green bench and that would blend nicely with some similar colours in the room. I would consider having your cupboard doors replaced or sprayed to compliment the bench or visa versa you can have your bench updated with a new finish to modernise it. Perhaps you could just price out the cost of a new bench and leave the rest of the kitchen as it is. The odd bit around the dishwasher looks weird and that might be able to be fixed by curving a new bench into a small breakfast bar type set up. If there is room I would also reposition the microwave to the right of the cook top and use the existing space for a display or a lovely pot plant.

Kitchen symmetry needed

I think like you -- I wouldn't spend $10k to make new cabinets just to centre things . A couple of 'thinking out loud' thoughts -- is it worth adding another layer of wallboard -- I'm thinking ply rather than gib -- then tiling over it ? It may stiffen everything , and ply has less flex , and as you are tiling over it , the finish doesn't matter too much , and the fact it would add say 18mm to the wall depth would be hidden by the fact that its to be tiled anyway . You may have to add a 'wider' facing around the doorway so it hides the extra thickness , but relatively easy to do ? Or is it worth looking at changing to a solid door ? Yes , I know it cuts space a bit , but depending whats on , say , the left hand wall , it may work , and its another way of stiffening up the wall , although it would need a builder .
