Rollers all the way ! The Shutters are an expensive option and are a current trend and will date the home once the trend fades. I have double rollers and have quoted and installed these for clients. Blockouts with shear curtains or sunscreen rollers always look good. Plenty of options with the roller option.

Yeah i got a quote for the double rollers as well with full blockout option and i also loe the translucent ones for my 5 meter door...but family are telling me to do plantation as they look great...

We have roller blinds in kitchen and meals.

They flap in the breeze and the aluminium rod on the bottom hits the window frame.....annoying as hell!

Should have used shutters!

Wall Chain options are commonly used that can be fixed to the wall to avoid movement and chocking. Check with window treatment company for options.

I think what some have said above re- shutters is right, they suit traditional/transitional designs, not modern. I've had rollers in a bedroom before. Absolutely never again. Yes you can fix them, and put rubber strip. But then they suck in and out with the breeze, and block most of the air flow anyway. Like MB said, they drove me absolutely crazy with sleep deprivation in Summer.

Having watched your build, I think you need to consider noise and how sound reacts in your house also....echo, etc. Curtains would help that situation.

Thanks :) but i'm not a curtains type of person....they are very out dated and old fashioned to me. We used to have them at my parents house a long time ago. I just couldn't do it!

Have a look at honeycomb blinds- similar price to rollers, available in blackout or translucent- which are beautiful, and they are extremely insulating I love ours, and my kids haven't ruined them!! They have added warmth and cosiness to the house.

I have seen the honeycomb blinds but i'm not a fan of the way they look with the lines.

It's between plantation and rollers..... May do plantation in the bedrooms and rollers on the large stacker doors

All good points above but also consider light levels. Roller blinds are obviously either all open or all closed, so can be too glary if on a bright side (east/west) of the house, which is why they go so well coupled with sheer curtains, but won't work if you don't want curtains. e.g. if your dining room faces due west, you may find you're getting really strong sunlight in your eyes when you're having dinner in summer but you also wouldn't want to close the blinds partially or completely. Plantation shutters though would be perfect to filter and angle the light - still open but not completely bare. But this may not be an issue the way your particular rooms are facing.

If your house is modern, slick and new - Do plantation shutters. They will also add value to your home.

Roller blinds look cheap! not to mention boring. Do plantation shutters, maybe roller on the large stacker door

Curtains are coming back in at the local display homes and look very luxurious. Plantation shutters look stylish in the right house but I agree with the comments about the potential to look dated if not a good match for the overall house style. Rollers remind me of schooldays when the teacher set up the projector to show a film while the students struggled to get the blinds to stay down to darken the room, but modern rollers are a simple window covering which can be a good thing if all you want is something that opens and shuts in the background while other features of the room stand out.

For something you'll really be happy with you need to be weighing up personal taste, house style, window style, functionality, maintenance, room usage, window orientation, etc. You can choose the trendiest look but if it's a nuisance to live with because it doesn't provide the required light/dark level or privacy or is noisy in the breeze or whatever, it is not the right choice for the purpose.

Yeah i agree...So i have decided to do plantation shutters in all the bedrooms and htrought the house, except for my huge 5 metre door where i will be doing 2 seperate roller blinds with remote controls

I personally don't find plantation shutters block out enough light for a bedroom (unless curtains as well). We have them on our front rooms and they are great in living spaces. Have you seen the 'veri shades' one of the block couples used in their master bedroom? ....IMO they seem as though they would suit the modern style and seem practical for your large 5m door stacker door.

I'm having similar issues - I'm replacing an old two way blind (one roll for privacy and one for black out) with curtains in our master bedroom. I'm over the blinds rods bashing together and on the wall with the slightest breeze at night and waking us up. and they block out too much air flow, we live on the gold coast (QLD) so we have the windows open almost all year round. The current "privacy" blind is black, which makes the room dark even during bright sunshine, however it does work well, our bedroom window is right next to our back yard and the BBQ and I can see into the neighbours opposite so don't want them seeing into my place! ! so we need the privacy. If we went with lighter coloured sheers would we still get the privacy or is black the way to go, or do we need to go with something less sheer? I did see the three photos above and loved the first look (from Bli Bli) just don't want to find out later that my privacy is gone!

Thanks Me Me, yes that's the same for the privacy part of the roller blind, does it matter if the sheers are light or dark coloured during the day to work well? and I like to be able to see out in the day, is there a better shade for this, lighter or darker?
