Help! Our back courtyard is looking a bit sad

Our back courtyard is looking a bit sad. We want to install a spa pool/hot tub in the back right corner. We are thinking of removing the right hand garden bed to give a bit more space. We also want to pull up the concrete pavers and lawn and replace with nicer pavers.
I'm looking for some advice. First, the spa pool companies have said that I should have a reinforced concrete pad for the spa pool. A landscaper I spoke to said it would be enough to have large pavers mounted on concrete. Is this right? A concrete pad would look less integrated with the rest of the space, but if it is necessary to have a stable platform then I'm willing to do this.
Second, what sort of pavers would work in this space? I want something attractive but nice to walk on. Any other suggestions?
Thanks so much!
