Help with room layouts and suggestions for better functionality
Hi all,
I am currently struggling with the layouts of my rooms and getting everything I want to fit in the house/make functional use of the space. In particular with the western side of the house comprising of the Lounge, Dining, Family, Kitchen and Foyer.
Currently the layout of the house is ok, however I am just wondering if there are any suggestions to make this better?
I have attached some photos for what the house looks like at the moment. I just feel like the furniture doesn't fit and when we update our furniture which we are looking to do in the future, it will be even harder to get right.
Any suggestions will be great!

Office/Craft Room redesign help
Comments (6)An entire wall of built-in cabinets and hooks and cubbies for your crafting stuff (and perhaps filing-type stuff and printer for the office). Take a good look at what you have and think about how best to organize and store it and what could be displayed to be pretty and what should be hidden behind curtains or doors. A fold down ironing board on a wall or back of a door somewhere would be great. A nice desk and filing cabinet for the office side... or perhaps a great big table in the middle under the window, wide enough to function for both of you facing each other? A nice curtain rod would make a big difference too. Preferably just about floor to ceiling. I'd put a splash of colour on the walls and keep the curtains simple, but you could go vice-versa too. Comments (14)We have a 900x900 shower and it's plenty big enough. Neither of your proposed layouts looks that great, to be perfectly honest, sorry! In the first layout, you could improve it quite a lot by swapping the toilet and vanity (centre the toilet under the window on the bottom right of the picture if possible), and having the shower door on the other wall (beside the door). Then, you could have a towel rail on the wall beside the door (i.e. behind the door when it's open), which would be accessible from the shower but hidden when the door was open. An 800x1200 shower might be a good size for your space. You'd have to choose a toilet that doesn't protrude too far, plus a narrow vanity. With that layout, you could have a long but narrow wall-hung vanity, with a big mirror covering the wall between the windows, which would make the room feel bigger and would give a good amount of storage. Comments (30)I am blown away from down under by the help that you all have freely given .... thank you sooo much indeed. who would have thought after a year of anguish that I would be put out of my misery! If I do go for the atlantic for chairs I will bring in plum touches and vice versa. Will now need to go and find some plum that closely aligns with your suggestions. Thanks for saying we can keep table! It is a good solid NZ made oak one ... chairs were all the rage back about 18 years ago! Now need to go! Not sure if you have considered the shower door in your layout, either the bath traps or it collides with the bathroom entry door, some awkward gaps by the bath and vanity there too, cleaning will drive you crazy. What do you think of this layout? This means you can have a 900 x 1200 shower with a sliding door and just room for a towel rail next to the vanity. Let me know how you go!...See More

Based on the provided floorplan, the issue is that your rooms are long and quite narrow so this will present a bit of a challenge with furniture placement.
When Selecting furniture I would suggest you choose sofas and armchairs that are sleek and have a small footprint. Make sure that the arms are narrow so they don't take up too much valuable space.
The below sofa and armchair are a good example of what I'm referring to.
The fire place in the Family Room takes up a lot of space in the centre of the only wall without windows, perhaps you would consider moving it into a corner? This would free up some space and provide some much needed circulation space. Otherwise this room is in danger of looking a little bit like a waiting room with sealing along one wall.
If you like open plan and aren't worried about taking out walls, then there is an opportunity to open up the wall between the dining room, Living Room and Kitchen for a real Open Plan space, but this would involve redesigning the entire living space of the house. Not impossible but a bit messy.
