It sounds lovely. The ceiling will be more than suitable for a transitional style. I think the wainscoting would also be fine but as I'm cautious I'd be adding after I'd lived there for a while. It does seem more traditional than transitional. On the other side I'd love the bead boarding in the hall.

You are so right white is never out of fashion. I would set your budget and then look at your options. If you plan to stay in the house for many years then spend to the top of your budget (if that is going to give you a life time of pleasure), if you plan on being at the home for only a short time / few years then I would go mid range so it looks lovely, will have good resale value but you can invest your well earned money to go towards something else as well. Obviously Marble / Granite is the top of the range but there are so many cheaper and very attractive options these days that look just as good.

Hi - about to renovate our bathroom and so far we are keen on using a combo of large marble/carrara floor tiles which will also go into shower area and up the walls of the walk in shower. We also want to use white subway tiles on another wall. For the vanity we are thinking of black wooden drawers with plain white stone top and white basin . For the tap ware we are keen on gunmetal but worried it might look dated in a few years. We want a contemporary look though. What are your thoughts on this combo. We thought of doing the vanity drawers in pale grey but think it might need the black to “lift” it as there is already too much grey/white in the tiles. Thoughts? Anyone got pictures of similar combos? Thanks!

Hi We are torn between a black and a white bathroom vanity. Here are the details of the bathroom: Large marble tiles on floor and up walls. With large round mirror above vanity One feature wall in charcoal hexagons Chrome tapware Concrete basin. We are wondering whether to put the basin on a white concrete top and white vanity front (safe!) OR Black vanity with either white or black top. Love the idea of a black vanity- I think it would really pop with all the grey/white in the tiles/basin etc but would it look odd with a white top (so 3 diff colours grey basin/white top/black vanity front) Better to have a black top? Anyone got an examples to show me? Thanks
