Should I install medicine cabinets??
Hello All,
Those of you that may have read my other threads know I am renovating my Edwardian house in Brunswick and posting on here has really led to some great help and ideas where I have made some positive changes.
I have now turned my attention to the bathroom and En-suite. I have put plans below.
I am doing these in an Edwardian style, with black and white checker board floor tiles, subway wall tiles, slipper tub, and period styled toilet. The shower will be slightly modern...being a walk in...but all tap wear etc will have a period look and feel.
We are having the vanities custom made and although we are yet to decide on the finer details they will look something like this;

My question: Should I include a medicine cabinet above each of the vanities. Something that would be in keeping with the style of the space and matching the vanities??? I was thinking of something like this;

Comments (15)[houzz=] Here is another that uses the corner well. This also will help offset the lack of symmetry on the range wall as well. Your cabinet maker would need to work out all the measurements. The base drawers to the right of the range may need to be reduced in size to be the same as the ones on the left, which will also help balance the wall. This tall unit to the left of the range will help to balance the large pantry on the right. Where the below picture does not show it, you would have room to place a small matching wall cabinet to the left of the corner tower to balance and to balance out the space between the window. Then you can still have some type of unit to the left of the sink with the appliance garage, but it would not need to be quite as wide and would give some space next to the sink. Look at this more and see what you think. There are some very unique features to your plan. A very high level of customization and much thought has gone into it. It is going to be beautiful. Comments (36)~$400 including expedited shipping. My GC just had his regular countertop guy do them, which wasn't great.... he had trouble making clean cuts. If I were going to do it again I would have pressed for someone with expertise to cut them. You can see in the image that the facing is not made of the stone peak, because too much was broken during the cutting to make the mitered edge. Comments (11)Here's a couple of ideas that work really well as alternatives to a walk in pantry. They integrate into your wall cabinetry, allowing you to keep central spaces open and free flowing. Using drawers to create a pantry as Esselai suggests. Check out how Harn Triomax soft close drawers are used in just this way. Availble in classic white or metallic grey. Two front to back depth options - 500mm and 5500mm. And 8 drawer width options from 450mm to 1200mm. Alternatively, there are a number of quality pull out pantry options in the German designed and made Vauth-Sagel range. Some are installed with fixed fronts to match your cabinetry, and others are installed behind hinged doors. See below (from top to bottom) the VSA model, DUSA model and HSA model. 5 years agolast modified: 5 years agocustom made vanity and wall cabinets should only be needed if you have awkward sizes as an off the shelf cabinet allows you to see and touch the product and is often much more economical than custom made ...unless you need to keep some special supplies (eg 24 pack of toilet rolls?) i suggest that a base cabinet need only be 450-500 deep which is plenty for folded towels and drawers and the in wall cabinet about 150mm deep (including most of the cabinet inside the wall and only a small frame for doors and mirrors projecting out) but the in wall cabinet may depend on existing wall studs and electrical wiring so think about what you would put inside the cabinets and only have enough inside cabinet space for those items (maximum toilet roll or fat shampoo bottle about 120mm...in small bathrooms the extra floor space makes drying and dresssing much more comfortable and by rotating the shower in the family bathroom there would be less wet floor in the walkway and if the vanity in the ensuite is away from the corner you can allow space for a handtowel and/or a very convenient space to hang a hair dryer ...

5 years agoA pencil edge mirror has a simple and precise edge, it has no bevel or border, this makes it streamlined as it just looks like mirror without any distraction.
If you recess the cabinet into the wall, only the doors need to sit in front of the finished wall (around 20mm), however installation also depends on the thickness of the wall and tiles etc. You can install with a little more space to fit your fingers under, or however you like. Our cabinets are 140mm in depth and the inside is 100mm that is enough to fit a standard toilet paper roll and cup holding toothbrushes etc. The have adjustable shelves and are they are made of MDF so they can easily be installed with a power point inside to charge an electric toothbrush or razor or connect your hairdryer etc.
