Renovating Design Dilemma Bathrooms

We are about to start a major reno and i've had some further thought about our new bathroom setup (as you can see from current house plan we are re-positioning the ensuite to another area of the house and opening up to a larger size bathroom). I'm concerned that when we delete the linen cubboard to fit a single toilet we are going to lose the much needed storage space this house needs. I'm thinking of removing the single toilet and putting it back in the bathroom to make room for a decent linen cupboard. I want the bath to remain in the corner in front of the window as shown on the plans but could be run length ways. Open to all suggestions, any help would be appreciated.

The actual measurements of the new bathroom will be 3m x 3.5

Hi Melinda,

How about positioning the doorway to your main bathroom, next to your vanity, and then adding a linen where your entrance was?

This might be a simple design fix to solve your problem?

Hi jay and Melinda. R u still working on layout? Have you thought about having an internal separation in the space. Try this, sorry I dont seem to have success adding images.

Off bedroom hall put an opening, could be sliding door, roughly 1200 from your main entry hall, centre of opening at 1600 offset. As you enter this doorway, on left is sliding door to toilet and on right a vanity. The toilet is rotated 90degrees from where you have it. Vanity say 1600 long and toilet room same. Toilet internal width 800. The vanity is set in from the eastern wall 500 to allow a narrow but 1600 long linen cupboard on entry hall outside bathroom.

Back in the bathroom area beyond the toilet and vanity is a wall with sliding door to washroom. In there I think you would fit a bath on west wall, shower 900w x 1200d on east wall in south corner and another smaller vanity around 900 on east wall.

This is creates a powder room on outside and bathroom beyond. Sinks in both areas for flexibility. The 1600 vanity, do one sink and put a makeup area with stool under bench on far end.

Thanks houssaon and rinqreation! Funny - hubby has the same 2 door hate! It sounds like I'm being outvoted on the shared ensuite idea. :) We've actually been set on both the configurations you suggested, we moved away from yours houssaon because we really wanted to keep a closed off office space (and hubby built the front deck and landing already for the door at the end of the hallway!). And I don't know why we shifted the door on the bedroom back to the same area, I think it was about having easy access to all the kids bedrooms. But maybe we should shift it back as you suggest rinqreation. Joice, the door at the end of the hallway is the front door, the entrance closest to the street, that you would come to first if you were a visitor. Not totally necessary, but we reinstated it before we decided we wanted the entrance up the stairs (middle bottom) which would be under a carport. Thanks for all your input!! It's really helpful to have some unattached opinions. I'm keen to hear from anyone else on the shared ensuite or 2 door hate question! :)

thank you for your comment. we are looking at using the interior wall, opposite the sink, for ceiling height cupboards utilising the wall cavities so as not to crowd the thoroughfare. I will keep a look out for replacement wooden windows. i would like to move them to the left so as to create more space in the corner area for hopefully a fridge? what to do with the fridge?

We have a 900x900 shower and it's plenty big enough. Neither of your proposed layouts looks that great, to be perfectly honest, sorry! In the first layout, you could improve it quite a lot by swapping the toilet and vanity (centre the toilet under the window on the bottom right of the picture if possible), and having the shower door on the other wall (beside the door). Then, you could have a towel rail on the wall beside the door (i.e. behind the door when it's open), which would be accessible from the shower but hidden when the door was open. An 800x1200 shower might be a good size for your space. You'd have to choose a toilet that doesn't protrude too far, plus a narrow vanity. With that layout, you could have a long but narrow wall-hung vanity, with a big mirror covering the wall between the windows, which would make the room feel bigger and would give a good amount of storage. We are renovating our home later this year and at the stage of picking the final elements to incorporate. I need a quick poll on colours please … the patterned tile is our bathroom floor, the light grey our walls. For some reason I am completely torn between which colour melteca cabinet to have, ‘french oak’ or ‘sea fog’??? Oak might be too dark and don’t know if I’m a fan of the white wood look… Any advice welcome!

i think Kate's suggestions would look something like this and i've added some extra storage in the bedrooms and there's also plenty of storage under the handbasins and next to the shower
