ADVICE ON INBUILT STORAGE PLEASE
Living area is (4.5x3.3). Would a floor to ceiling inbuilt bookcase create the illusion of space and/or high ceilings? how far along the wall should I have it built? Should I include storage cupboards below as per the pics? I think it would add value to the home- partner thinks it will make room look small and feel cluttered. Need it for my books.

5 years agoThe pics supplied here is how it is currently till we move in. in terms of living area accessories my partner would like to include- PS4 + games. Other than that, he has a 6m x 6m dble colourbond shed out the back + a large undercover garage area with measurements included in the pic.

Comments (36)~$400 including expedited shipping. My GC just had his regular countertop guy do them, which wasn't great.... he had trouble making clean cuts. If I were going to do it again I would have pressed for someone with expertise to cut them. You can see in the image that the facing is not made of the stone peak, because too much was broken during the cutting to make the mitered edge. Comments (46)The blue is awesome (grey is too trendy)! The reason it stands out to you is perhaps because it's the only real colour there. Bring in the blue in a window treatment, a small appliance that sits on the counter, a pretty tray or area rug. Also, it is more appealing often if there are more than 2 colours - so right now you have a white and blue colour scheme - bring in red or orange or fushia - something from the other side of the spectrum (like you did with the yellow flowers but in a more permanent way)!...See MorePlease critique our kitchen design
Comments (6)Thanks for your comments everyone. We've taken your advice (Luke and NH) and changed the island to a rectangle (1200 x 3000). We lose one breakfast bar seat but gain storage and dining room space plus it shortens the distances from the island to the cooktops. It also removes the need for a corner carousel. We're much happier with this result. Dairy_maid, we've done what you suggested and walked through some common tasks. Overall it works reasonably well although we may keep some coffee spoons and butter knives in the scullery drawers for morning toast and coffee. We've also invested in a "silent" rangehood which has the motor on the outside of the house behind the fridge and we've upgraded the scullery sink to one that is 600 x 400 (internal size). Comments (1)Is this a new build? I would suggest you look at each room in detail and put the actual furniture arrangement you will have, to the right scale, and think about how you will move through and use those spaces. Some of those look odd to me, but it may be the way you intend to use those spaces is different to my imagination. The access to the changing room seems only through the Kitchen. and either out the front door or dining and living to get to the pool area. How will this be fenced? Where is washing to be carried from the laundry? Is there a line nearby? Out the front door, or through kitchen dining and living? Bed 4 has to go through a living space to a bathroom, the living room is hard to imagine in use as arranged, and bed 2 and 3 look to have the beds right into a corner for no reason. How would you accommodate a double bed in these rooms? In a few years this may be what you want. If you will have other furniture, draw it in. There a large walk in cupboard/robe off a store room. What will be in the storage room? Draw that in too, so you know there is space and it won't block access to the robe. Many of the storage spaces/benches/shelves are shown with corner shelving arrangements which isn't often the best use of space. Bed 1 looks out onto the front access. How will you provide privacy? 5 years agolast modified: 5 years agolooks like there'll be plenty of room for his special things but attempting to make a plan of the rooms to try different ideas i realised that the dimensions on the plans are inconsistent (has an entry hall wall been removed??) so you'll need to confirm the exact size of rooms to make specific plans for built ins but one way to create excellent, economical and flexible storage for some of my books we used IKEA Billy bookcases... 80cm wide by 202cm tall x 28cm deep bookcases with glass doors and a combination of wood and glass shelves ...(they come in different heights, widths and colours) we have black and white ones in different rooms for different storage and they make the rooms look spacious and organised..much neater and cleaner than open shelves and have the great advantage of being able to be tried in different locations until you're happy with the arrangement but must be screwed to the wall for security ..my plan shows possible locations for similar sized bookshelves but size of rooms need to be confirmed to be more accurate...

5 years agoHayley, I understand the need to have thoughts materialised, even if you are not residing in the place yet. Books themselves make a great display. If the area is squeezed adding wall units, maybe if it is a low shelf which can be sat on at times might alieviate the problem of crowding the room.
