Beautiful clean modern kitchen! You have a great opportunity to put your personal stamp on the space with a unique backsplash. As you've heard already there are some different approaches. I'd probably place the backsplash up to the wall cabinets and up to the base of the hood. Then continue the backsplash at the same height (18"?) behind the sink. Then place an inspiring colorful picture above the sink to break up the wall. Here's a picture with pendants that aren't too obtrusive. Having multiple levels of lighting at different lumens makes a more inviting feel to the space. I couldn't decipher your flooring, but you may also want to consider adding some nature elements like a type of wood flooring, wood stools, etc. Good luck! Sorry, don't think it fits, The prongs on the light give it a more circular shape but you have this over a beautiful oblong bench. Always rectangular or oblong over rectangular. And the dark ends of the bulbs will create shadows, not so good in a work space. Used to work in lighting for a few years and it always comes down to what makes you happy. I would have tried to steer you in a different direction, Hope this helps.

Well done its going to look beautiful! I would consider have both! Even if you have the wall light above the bed a lamp beside you will act as task lighting for reading at night, whereas the wall light is more for lighting the room itself. Find lighting that compliments each other or from the same range for a cohesive and subtle look.
