I’ve recently purchased a new apartment & this is the only part of the apartment I don’t love!! My L shape kitchen doesn’t have an island & the tiles in the kitchen dont extend out to where a table would be needed. It’s boarded with carpet.
The reason is that carpet was cheaper than tiles for your developer. You probably don't have room for an island bench as it will compromise the layout of the rest of the room. If you prefer tiles for your eating area I would source the same tiles that your developer used, remove the carpet in that room, and tile the whole room with the same tiles for a more consistant look. Adding a colourful rug will soften your sitting area.
Agree with others, take up carpet and tile the full area. Use floor rugs for texture and colour in your lounge area, have a bench for your island with seating for gatherings with friends and family.
We agree with the other posters on taking up the carpet and extending the tiled floor. Also have you considered the option of a islandbench that is moveable?
We can custom make a stainless steel Tech Bench at Moss Furniture that is on castors which will double as a high table and island bench.
