Our builder is charging an additional $20k to glaze the entire house in UPVC. is it a worthwhile investment? We live in Perth. Is low e glass a more value for money alternative?
We have upvc frames, double glazed windows with low e coating.
We’re in western Vic, gets pretty chilly in winter.
The low e coating we didn’t pay extra for, if we had to I wouldn’t have worried about it.
We love the upvc frames. Don’t get cold like aluminium ones and extremely sturdy.
We are building our ‘forever’ home which is why we went for the extra expense of the upvc. Longevity, thermal transfer and we liked the look of them a lot more than aluminium. There’s also none of the upkeep required by timber frames.
We’re still building but we have seen how they perform through winter and summer (it’s taking us a while!). Through winter the house stayed very mild, we will rarely need to light the fire. Over summer house did get warm on extreme days but we are using scyon linear boards, not brick so I feel that has some bearing on it.
