Help with exterior colour scheme
We've just moved into a new house and it has a real mishmash of a colour scheme going on. There is extensive pink paving with a cream border and cream colorbond fencing with a manor red border the whole way around. The roof tiles are a warm charcoal bordering on brown, the gutters are grey and the facade is a white that seems to lean cool in some lights and warm in others. The garage door and front door are a cool blue, and window frames and screen door are black. I'd like to make this all look more cohesive with as little expense as possible. Our style leans contemporary/modern Australian and the garden beds will eventually be overhauled so they are more lush and green.

Comments (3)I reall like the current colors and your red roof. I think you can change the house colors and not change the fence color. Here is one example that is in a tan family: With a white trim and dark brown shutters, I think it would work. Comments (6)Hi again- I have been looking at Benjamin Moores colors and have chosen a few you might look at. My technique for color choices is to buy several large sheets of MDF from the hardware and several paint samples that I think will work. Grab a plain white sample pot as well and just play with colors; if what you thought looked good in the shop and doesn't look good in reality, just add a bit of the white to lighten it and use the darker tones to deepen. Once you've found the color you like paint it on one of the large MDF sheets and live with it for a day or two and see how it looks morning,night, south side of building,northside of building. If the color that you like is one that you've mixed yourself, just go back to the paintshop as I'm sure B Moore would have the right shade so you can match it. Do you know the color name of the roofing? Is it IRONSTONE or MONUMENT? I'd be tempted to use that same color for the windows. My personal trick for contrast and trims is to take the main color and ask paint shop to make it up in 1/4 strength even lighter if need be. Comments (8)Hi, I know there are so many things to take into account and it's hard to get perspective from a photo. The white you can see is an extension with building paper, and the red is the existing building which is two story. The exterior is wide weatherboard planking, the windows are silver aluminium with very little trim. The doors in the front of the picture are French doors from bedrooms that will open to an enclosed courtyard ( yet to be built of course) The roof will be a light grey/brown but you won't see it much because of the flat roof style. We like a Tranquil retreat or grey pebble but not really not sure about which tones is appropriate, especially if going for the loft/industrial look with black windows. Tried goggling red brick, terracotta roof, black windows and couldn't find much....See More

5 years agoI think it is the garage colour that is upsetting the balance , you could soften the look by painting it same colour as gutters or you could go a more charcoal colour for guttered and garage door to blend in with windows as oklouise suggested, gorgeous pots at the entrance, new light fitting and some fabulous architectural plants for your garden beds, lovely house.

5 years agoSpeaking of the gate, what do you think would be the best colour for the side gate we're putting here? It will be a double swing aluminium slat gate, and I'd imagined using timber-look slats because I love timber and we'll be using a lot of it inside the house. But now I'm not so sure whether it would look unbalanced, and what colour would work here. This is a battleaxe block so this gate will be the first thing you see as you're coming down the driveway. I'm planning to have a magnolia in a pot between the garage door and the gate.
