Glass. As to ideas to help room work better, some questions:

what are dimensions of room (appears quite small)?

does only 1 person use room?

is the pocket door the only means of entry/exit?

whats behind the drape...a window?

is that a loft room immediately above bed area, and is it accessed solely from this room?

where are clothes stored?

is storage an issue?

can you provide more pics of room so we can see how it’s currently arranged?

BTW, the cabinet looks great; did you make it?

May I ask what the metal strip thingy on top of cabinet is? Curiosity has gotten the better of me.

Thanks everyone so far. Only hesitation with glass (or a white-grey tinted glass) is that it might be a bit glarey with the spotlights above, but will definitely consider it!

Cheers Annb, my father built the whole room including the cabinet :). The cd shelves are from IKEA. The metal strips you see are just over-door clothes hooks you can pick up for around $10ea. They just slide on top of any old door and are not bolted on in any way. We are going to install a rail inside to convert this to more of a wardrobe.

The room dimensions are actually 3.8 x 3.7, but the width of the wall pictured is more around 2.7 because of the cabinet & bricks.

Behind the curtain is a double sliding door with windows and optional external access. Same on opposite wall (which is more important to access.. and has nice views, hence the current, slightly awkward bed placement..)

The pocket door is to what will be an ensuite. Main internal access is opposite, or external through the sliding door (marked with arrows in the second pic).

The mezzanine is 1.4 wide, with sloping ceiling overhead. Could technically fit that king single up there, just, but the bed will probably be upgraded to a double bed soon enough. It's just storage on the mezzanine for now, but brainstorming... thought it could be used as a reading retreat or put that bed up there for guests once the double bed (thinking IKEA's Malm with the under-bed storage drawers).

Just one young adult (20s) using the room. Between the wardrobe, drawers, sideboard and mezzanine there is plenty enough storage space. Drawers and sideboard will stay as is, but we are hoping to use this side of the room more wisely!

I’m Renee, your dad has built such a great space, and it’s exciting to see the transformation. Thanks for additional info and sketches-it helps to visualise the whole room. I like the idea of the loft as sleeping space, either as your 20-something’s primary, or for guests. In the meantime, good place for storage.

What additional needs does the room’s user need or want? Does this person want to be able to spend more time in here for relaxation or study pursuits? So, maybe there’s need for desk or armchair & lamp for reading?

Is the size of bed likely to change?

Are the dresser and sideboard primarily used for clothes storage?

Does this person regularly use the slider (opposite bed) for entry/exit? Just thinking perhaps an armchair could be positioned in front of the fixed glass, with lamp on top of dresser IF needed.

It looks like for the Malm bed‘s drawers to be readily accessed (at least on one side), it would be necessary to either eliminate the small white bedside cabinet, or relocate it to other side of bed (where shoe rack is). The Malm bed looks like a good option.

Actually, don’t think white cabinet would fit on other side of bed either. Maybe think of other option, like a side table or other.
