Comments (16)Perhaps a colored door if you paint the home grey. Maybe Red? You could simulate a color change on door by hanging something over the door that is the color like a tablecloth or piece of fabric. Comments (19)Hi pjfee2...thanks for your ideas. Have to admit I have not given the reno in MT much thought this summer, here!! Actually been finishing our beach house re-build down here and a bit 'reno'd out' to be honest. BUT we head back in just over a month so it’s time I did give it some serious thought, so your comments very much appreciated. Already got builders organized so that’s a start LOL I love the idea of adding stone on the outside to the turret part – but guessing that is as far as the budget would stretch. The siding is in good shape so need to stain it to work. Love the idea of pulling a color from the turret stone to do this. Will get a stone that has some of the log house gingery color in it and then stain the newer part of house a tone of this?? So far I’m sure we will · Rebuild the deck to run across the front of the house and form the roof over the front door entryway · Make the entry way wider and mud room inside bigger · Replace the small window to the bathroom with a door off the deck, matching the French doors. · Replace the tiny window in the turret with a longer one. · Cover turret with schist or stone cladding Not sure about replacing the windows under the deck. Added a picture of them from the inside. This living space is the hardest to figure out how to furnish in this house. It has quite a lot of light from a large window on the left wall - out of this shot - and across the back of the room through a wide door way to the room at the back. Thinking of opening up this wall? And from the inside they seem pretty well balance? Big problem in that room is that there is not a lot of places that we can use to create a sitting area. Need to get a couple of sofas in there and push them around to see what will work. It has 4 doors leading off and as you can see large log posts dotted about!! Comments (2)This just popped up , but I see it is quite old . Did you decide on paint colours ? The roof looks almost a brown tone in the photos , but you say it is dark grey . I assume you don't want to paint that ? If you do , go more charcoal IMO . If you don't , I'm assumimg it will look several shades darker with your wall colour choices . There is a roller door on the garage that appears to be a nice shade of orangey yellow . Personally , I would go with your colour choices , but do all the doors ( roller doors , wooden doors ) and gutterings in that ochre shade . Your terrace I would do in a charcoal , but with the top rail either in the orangey yellow , or a really crisp white . I know that sounds a bit 70's ( although they would have added a lot of ranch brown back then haha ! ) but against the light grey I suspect it would work together well , and look the part ....See MoreNot sure what to do to my kitchen
Comments (17)Lighting - pendants over the servery bench should be another feature that complements your chosen kitchen surfaces. So whilst I love the copper pendants in picture 1.. They could work depending on the rest of your decor and would be a highlight in a neutral white/timber kitchen = Good! If you choose copper you would complement it with a couple of copper bench top items. These are beautiful! (I collect copper because I love it, my kitchen pendants are silver, I renovated to sell in the next 3-5 years) You will see a picture starting to form in your mind and there is nothing wrong with making a statement with your lighting. I found that when I wasn't sure I would get a very strong sense of what was right and what was wrong for a space, then common sense or passion would determine the outcome! Here are another couple that might work, look her on Houzz under lighting, search pendants, then have fun looking!Timber tones with black or white to complement your cabinets... or Statement white pendants for a bit of quirky fun! Your personality can be reflected in your lighting and accessories creating that point of difference from the predictable white on timber look. 5 years agoYours is the style of home that can truly be transformed with the right colour. Your house is already a light colour and it doesnt do justice so Id suggest going for a deep colour on the walls top and bottom and making a bold statement - unfortunately this would require repainting the roof as well but I think this would be well worth doing as pale green is going to be very restrictive to the colour you paint the outside. With every second house at the moment seeming to be painted grey Id suggest a different bold colour in blue tone - such as a navy blue, dusty blue or teal-blue with off white/cream for the trims, window frames, garage door and staircase. This colour combination looks stunning with a light silver colour roof (which is available in dulux roof paint)
You have a couple of awnings already so Id add another one on the other side over the LH window and front door as they are very close together - this will help balance out the front of the house and add further interest and character. Paint your front door a contrasting colour as well to add further street appeal.
Adding some plants up high in the form of window boxes under the front windows, and one under the side window with the awning, planted out with trailing plants (especially silver toned such as variegated ivy, white flowering geraniums, and silver dichondra) would look amazing! Best of luck

5 years agoHi Dash, I painted my own house a similar colour to the 2nd and 4th image I uploaded - hence the reason I recommended this colour as it really transforms a bland house. Its called 'Alpine' and is by Wattyl paints, its not a current colour but any good hardware store can make it up for you. My trims are in 'Shetland Lace' (dulux I think) which is actually a cream colour.
Our house also needed help when we bought it, it looked terrible and was painted a very pale green (looked white but was actually very very light green) with leaf green roof. We did also re-install the original windows and front door which helped, and my husband insisted on repainting the roof silver (thank goodness he did), but before we did this we repainted and you can see from my before and after photos what a difference it made painting it the Alpine colour. We did try other colours, including grey, but the blue had the best look.
First image is the 'before', second image the 'after' and third image also the 'after' but courtesy of google (it shows the railings). The verandah railings have been taken down temporarily as we are redoing the front deck.
