Design Dilemma Bedroom Building a Home

Flooring inspiration please!

Would anyone mind sharing their photos of their vinyl plank flooring and/or budget to mid range carpet in situ?
I’m currently thinking Oakey tones for the vinyl planks and dark greys for carpet. We have young kids and it’s a first home so budget and wear and tear are forefront. I’m just not sure on the aesthetic of these colours and would appreciate seeing some examples. Especially the dark carpets!! I’m worried they will make the bedrooms appear smaller but am convinced any other hue will be dated or exposing to dirt and wear.

Ideally I’d love a timber veneer cabinet in our en-suite as well (something like pic) but may end up with classic white. Wall and ceiling colours are Dulux Mt Aspiring (similar to Snowy Mountains) and Lexicon half.

Hi swich5, we have just sold our old home. I put new carpets through the entire home in 2008. We moved out in 2015 to our new home, and rented our old home out. Well, after same tenants for three years, moved out. (Who I don't think really cleaned until they did move out) I got all the carpets professionally cleaned. The carpet is very similar to the brand you have mentioned. The carpets came up a treat. A very good product, very robust, and easy to keep clean, remove spills, and as I've mentioned, resurrect after three years of not being looked after. All the best.

And, forgot to mention, Before putting our home on the market, we painted the entire home in Snowy Mountains. And the dark carpet did not make the rooms appear smaller.

You say the kids come in the small door and then bring their stuff to the large door to drop it? I think the "mudroom" needs to be at the small door. Anyone who brings their stuff out of that area has to clean the glass doors next time they need it. As for the guest entry, you need to get something bigger than that desk, and your picture needs to be lowered so the center point of it is 5' above the floor (you'll have to calculate the centimeters.) Consider making the investment to reverse the swing of the door so you can make the best of the larger wall to greet your guests with a console or credenza and some decor.

Hello. We have a little ski chalet which is an A frame, the upstairs floor has had the carpet taken oust due to wear and the jib boards have been Polyrethaned. We want to cover the floor inexpensively (so we can rent it) to reduce noise and cover the small gaps at the edges where the light comes in from below. There are beams that make carpeting expensive (need to cut around), are there any other options? Rugs don't seem to cut it. Thanks .

With the pantry being located where it is, it provides a opportunity to make it inbuilt and continue your bench top along. This would then provide more bench space and would make sure you are using that wall to its full potential. However for space and flow and to make your kitchen more ascetically pleasing, we would suggest keeping the island bench and making the appliances integrated. This provides opportunity to make that far wall a feature wall, which can be as simple as a blackboard or pictures, to making it a colour feature (depending on you cabinetry) or even to make it high class you could create a wood paneling feature. I hope this helps, either way you can add bonus features to your kitchen, you can create more storage and bench space with changing the pantry, or you could make a design feature out of that wall. There are more cons than pros, I'm afraid. Near black floors will show every speck of dust and need constant maintenance. They also will suck up a lot of light, so you need to add lots of extra lighting. If they are shiny, they also show marks just as a mirror does. They are not the best for re-sale properties either, as most people prefer something more medium toned for the long term. I recommend going with a more classic floor, and then adding black accents in furniture, etc. Your kitchen could be mostly white cabinets with some very dark stained sections. The contrast looks great. I am a little over grey, but it is practical and you can really make it work with the new colour schemes. Ensuite cupboard does look appealing.

Two dark grey schemes - think minerals for added emphasis.

Just to widen your scope. Whatever scheme you put together, don't apologise, just make it yours.

swich5, we installed charcoal carpeting in investment home last year. Didn’t make bedrooms appear smaller; walls are painted Whisper White and ceiling height is 9’. I’ll post pics later today after I have a chance to visit the house. I also like the vanity you posted. I tend to gravitate more to warmer oaks rather than grey-toned ones. Just seems to give the room a warmer and inviting feel. Somewhere in the middle would also be lovely.

I love the oak colour you have pictured, its timeless and warm and goes with virtually everything. I have the same carpet in your 3rd image in the straw colour and find it so easy to spot clean, it does not seem to hold stains at all. However I will admit the light colour needs regular shampooing but it comes up as good as new every time.

Personally I would go for the grey carpet that is furtherest away in your first image and looks slightly two-tone as we rented a house for a year that had a dark solid-colour carpet and it drove me insane. You could see every little tiny bit of fluff that landed on it and I was forever bending down picking up bits of cotton, etc.
