Cabinet materials for an outdoor kitchen

We are looking at putting in an outdoor kitchen and would like timber-looking cabinets from a design perspective.
Initially we were looking at compact laminate because it is meant to weather well but our preferred trades haven’t used compact laminate before and we’ve been recommended to use timber instead.
Our kitchen will be under the main roof and will have blinds alongside so rain shouldn’t be too much of an issue but will be exposed to western sun so UV is a big factor to consider.
While timber has the advantage of being able to be resanded and restained, I guess it’s movement in the weather is of concern, which shouldn’t be an issue with the compact laminate. However, when we’ve gone back to look at the laminate, it looks like it will be susceptible to the sun, judging by the screen in the laminex carpark.
Can anyone share their experience with timber or the compact laminate in outdoor kitchens? What’s going to last longer and look better?
