Chimney stack removal - water leaking during rain

Hi all,

We have a chimney stack on the external part of the wall of the house and a tiled roof. We have had water leaking down the internal cavity wall. A roofing guy came out a suggested we remove the stack down to below roof level - what are people's thought on this? Waiting on his quote. Can the stack be removed on an external wall - i read it definatley can be if it is in the middle of the roof but seems to be issues with it being on an external wall.

Thanks,

It depends on how your eaves, gutters and flashing are designed around your chimney. Just be sure that any structural roof elements are not attached to the brickwork that is being removed, otherwise it could snowball into a very big, expensive and messy job.
