Magnolias next to swimming pools

I have had mixed advice about planting magnolias next to a swimming pool.

I have purchased white caviar magnolias to grow as a privacy hedge in a planter box along one side of the pool.

The pool pipes will be below ground between the plants and the pool.

The information I have received is that the magnolia roots are invasive and will destroy the pool pipes and yet a lot of people have magnolias next to their pool.

So confused!!!! Appreciate comments from anyone with experience of magnolias next to pools.

2 things swimming pools don't like and that is large rooted plants, and falling leaf, flowers into the water. The other problems we face are the pavers around the edges lifting from roots.
