I think that you could certainlt do what you are suggesting but you would get a bigger impact from a new colour ( eg classic black trims with white walls) and landscaping.

My thought - Less paving, more landscaping and small tree in front yard before changing roofline, which is not the problem. Clad/replace columns and add some detail to verandah.
But hey if you hate the roof line by all means change it. Put your stamp on house.

I love the columns and the screen matches.....soften the yard with some landscaping is my suggestion the best investment I believe is a persons landscape work you have admired coming to your home and walking you through ideas.....I have had some priceless advice from well grounded garden people over the years saving me large amounts of money.

I think your house looks cute. Altering the roofline won't be cheap and you also have issues with the roof /wall alignment on left. I think a distinctive paint job and some exciting landscaping may be very effective and more economical?

Do you use that big expanse of paving for something?

Ps I love the screen door and the verandah posts, don't think I would change anything structural on reflection.

a quote for changing the angle of the roof will help you realise that the reason the original verandah is done as a skillion is because it's the most cost effective way to add a covered area to a house with your roof shape...depends on what style you prefer but some fresh colour, landscaping and a canopy over the front window would give a much better result

Thanks everyone re comments. Does anyone happen to know how to achieve a really textured effect with ‘stucco’ : I want to repair/ resurface the fascade. I saw a White House that had a texture like the 1970s ceilings. It is a 1920s house that I saw. I presume this would be a concrete render not acrylic?

Or should I remove render altogether?

an interesting effect that we had repaired and repeated on our 1950s house was called "slap dash" by our tradies who used a tool with a revolving chamber turned with a handle that spattered wet concrete over fresh new rendered walls... anything that needs careful preparation and skilled labour is not cheap but we're delighted with the results and you could ask for quotes from specialist tradesman to see what styles would be suitable for your home..we chose to repair and not remove the old render because it was part of the original structure and removal would have compromised the waterproofing of the walls although you could possibly install sheet cladding over the damaged walls..check Hardies panel clad Stucco or similar

I am not sure. It will draw attention to that part but that isn't a feature.

I personally would reduce the paved area a lot if possible, cut back the hedge so it doesn't blocky your full length window/ door and draw attention to the verandah area itself. I would add a big feature pot in between your front door and window. And pressure wash remaining paving.

I have a rear pergola that I want to enclose. Currently it has flimsy blue board panels and cafe blinds on both sides, and is open at the front with a zip lock blind. I was thinking of an industrial look with steel windows on side panels. Unsure about what to do at front where the ziplock is: any experience with outwards opening hinge windows (almost like a garage door?)
