joinery ideas to fill gap around the new wall oven

We have installed a new oven and the gap around it needs to be finished.

The gap either side of the oven is c.15 – 20mm, above the oven would be c. 200mm. Unfortunately the gap is not big enough to fit a microwave but it could be a drawer or shelf.

We aren't wanting to upgrade the kitchen at this stage, just make it look nice as it is the original style, c. 30 yrs old but in good condition.

The woodwork is part laminate and part rimu. We have wondered if the oven should be raised so the gap would be at the bottom but if the better option is to leave it as an open shelf, I think it would be better to be at the top.

I have thought about trying to match with wood or going with a black strip along the oven sides and either a wooden or

black shelf/drawer.

Any advice on this would be appreciated.
