Since the kitchen is of a simplistic design, I would install feature pendant lights over the island bench. Although the area does not appear that small as you say, three pendants would probably be the best option as two seems empty and four often makes a compact kitchen feel overcrowded.

For the dining table, depending on the budget of course, a table with black base and legs with a thin white marble slab for the tabletop would fit in with the minimalistic design.

Hi Pas, Have you moved in (the pantry is bare and no fridge/freezer) or is this a display house? Whichever way, the practical/task lighting in the kitchen looks inadequate and that should be addressed first before decorative lighting.

I agree that 3 pendant lights over the kitchen bench would be good . I really like the table but the chairs not so much .

Have a look at the Matt Blatt site as they have a good range of different black chairs . Some with timber if you like that look .

Maybe you wish for contrast by changing the table

Have you considered a green table?

You have green highlights in the room

Green would flatter the cane chairs

Also, add a wall clock to the pantry wall, by the doorway

Looks like the real estate agent photo is quite stretched and that the kitchen is quite small, largely because of that, I'd personally recommend having two medium size pendant lights hanging over your bench-top.

As for the dining table, i'd recommend a glass topped dining table, so that light can flow through the glass, so you don't block yourself visually - and in essence, creating an illusion of a larger space then perhaps it actually is.

I think the three pendant light would be great,

I have seen a beautiful kitchen table which is marble protected top with black legs from Nick Scali , it is the Provincial model and it is half price at the moment.

I agree that the table and chairs 'work'. How about bringing in some natural wood accessories such as a nice big wooden chopping block. Fresh flowers, fruit bowl and then some candles (and music!). A space should stimulate all the senses to be interesting and feel like home.

Tom Dixon lights are an added bonus in any kitchen. They are pricy, so replicas, under licence are a good alternative. Replicalighting.com.au is a good place to start. As a devotee of great design, and not having the budget for such I look for replicas. There are some great places to buy from - Kmart to Furniture Fetish to Matt Blatt. Have fun

Hi Pas, I think 3 pendant lights over the bench would work well. Keep it a an odd number and as for the table it looks great. Change the chairs to black to match the kitchen bench.

I agree with three pendant lights. Overall however it looks quite cold and bland, with white and white and white everywhere. Why not buy a good quality second hand timber table and other simple classic pieces rather than new?

What it needs is colour !

3 , 4 or 5 of those fairly long narrow red , orange or even yellow 'conical' drop lights , hanging individually but evenly spaced along the ceiling above the bench .

Same colour upholstery on the dining table chairs .

Take down the 3 'nothing' pictures . Where the 2 are ( love the white leather suite btw ) mount a TV . And where the single one is , go for something abstract and colourful .

Easy peasy .
