Hi forum,

Renovating a 1970’s house

house was purchased due to land size as it is damn ugly lol

I Have the difficult task of picking the render colour and would love any input or advice

Sample pot Dune seemed pinkish
Calf skin I like but possibly too light?

Painting of windows gutters etc once render complete again will come down to render colour.
Garage wall may need some sort of cladding down the track as its a boring brick wall !

Try Hog Bristle or Tranquil Retreat on walls and a black like Monument on gutters and facsia, keep eaves white. Vivid White or Monument on the garage door. Vivid white on the timber boards. Could look great.

Are there any rules to follow regarding choosing exterior colours, ie, someone once told me that there should never be more than three colours, regarding the roof, walls and trims. Building a modern monoplane roof house on the coast. Like the idea of either Gull Grey or New Denim Blue for the metal roof. The interior pallette will be whites, inky navy, greys. Drawn towards grey for the weatherboard walls or white, prefer a black door. Although this is a modern house we are trying to inject a bit of modern farmhouse decor inside. Hi. Choosing an exterior colour is so hard. What do you think? The darker blue In the first pic or the lighter duck egg blue in the second or perhaps even the small patch of very dark blue On the two weather boards in the second pic.

The front has an appeal. Could add some shutters to add some dimension and maybe window boxes to ground floor windows

Hi Adam,
Not sure if you have picked a colour but here are my suggestions after working with so many outdoor areas incorporating exteriors of homes.
- You could change the garage door into a timber style look, this will add warmth.
- Add styled panelling to add texture for the top or bottom section of the house and paint the rest.
Tip: Landscaping also changes and enhances any exterior renovations.
