I agree with bigreader. A combined pantry/laundry is a big mistake if there are pooey toddlers or sweaty teenagers in the house. You have enough room for both by dividing it in half.

Initially there were 2 small separate rooms with 2 doors opening into the kitchen/meals area with laundry being closer to kitchen because of access to outside for drying. We wanted pantry next to the kitchen, so they were swapped which didn't make sense to carry the washing through kitchen and pantry to outside.

I was wondering if something like this will work? A door in the middle where washing machine and dryer are on the Right Hand Side underneath the shelf and pantry on the LHS with a common large sink in the middle.

Definitely keep the two rooms separate.

It makes more sense to take a step or two to a separate pantry than to combine the functions of both rooms. It sounds like the position of the door is your concern, however it does not need to be much different to the central door position in your sketch. If I was looking to buy your home I would wonder why there was no pantry, and why the laundry was so big.

Why don't you post the original two room option? Perhaps get your designer to do a quick 3D image to show how the pantry door relates to the bench?

A 3D image can make kitchens so much easier to visualise at the planning stages.

I do agree with others to keep the spaces separate. My suggestion is to put a cavity slider between the two, with a frosted glass door. Separate sink in laundry, can be a small size, with stacking washer and dryer. By the plans, you have a dishwasher and sink in kitchen. Do you require the same in the pantry? You need to ascertain how you live now and in the future. Do you require a bigger laundry than pantry or a bigger pantry?
Sheet washing days, winter clothing wash days, take up a lot of floor space. If there is just two people maybe not as much as a family. But I am assuming you are a big family if you need two dishwashers.

This is an example of a combined laundry and pantry. It could work, but, be aware of times with sick peoples clothing/sheets in your pantry.

i guess it depends on how you want to use your pantry but what's on the other side of the pantry?...can we see the rest of the plans?

I’d put a sliding door in the space to allow the laundry to be closed when messy. Also frame up for a second door even if you plaster over, in case you change you mind later about second door. Sliding door location depends on space breakdown

Hi Think about how you use laundry it’s very small. I have two flat based drawers stacked under bench holding hamper baskets one for whites and one for darks. These often overflow with a family of 5. Spare basket for wet laundry sits above w/m dryer stack. Under sink is washing powders, flysprays, bucket. I have another set of cabinets for other items like iron, iron board, sewing machines tool box, vacuum, espy, etc. also have a mudroom for shoes etc at back door

I don't think your available space and shape works very well as a combined laundry/Pantry, so I would suggest the following to try and keep some form of separation,. The narrow 300 deep pantry is great storage with being very accessible to appliances that can be lifted out onto the island bench when being used, this is how I work, plus easy storage for pantry items that can be seen when opening the doors. A window in the laundry for fresh air ventilation and moving the fridge to the other side will stop congestion, make sure you allow fordoor swing opening of the fridge.

The only other alternative would be to open up the whole wall between the kitchen/laundry/pantry behind bifold doors, you would have to check with council if this is OK

I think Siriusky plan with 300mm pantry is an excellent idea. This is removing the edible food from the laundry area. May I suggest that the door to laundry is placed on the dining end. With dishwasher and sink, in laundry, near that door. Then place the pantry storage into the kitchen area. When clearing dishes they can be walked straight to dishwasher in the laundry, without entering kitchen. The pantry items will then be in the kitchen area.
Also, anyone entering or exiting through laundry is away from the kitchen area.

In my opinion kitchens should be safe working spaces, not thoroughfares to somewhere else.

An Update on my option 1 plan with the laundry behind bifold doors stacked washer/dryer with separate sink. The dryer would need to be ducted, This laundry can be used as per normal laundry days with doors open to sort used linen and once machine is started close doors off, this works along the lines of a Euro laundry. Access to outside clothes line can be via the pantry dish washing space or via the kitchen dining doors to the clothes line. When bringing dry clothing into the house once again via the dining doors which can give the opportunity to sort things on the dining table.

There's a sliding door between the laundry and the dishwashing area, both have a dedicated sink.
