Curb appeal indecision... advice please!
Comments (91)Sorry I am so late coming to your site - you are an inspiration to all, homeowners and advisers alike. For your planting advice, I suggest you call Merrifield Garden Center to see if they will come out your way. They currently have wonderful garden centers in Merrifield and Fairfax (both in Fairfax County) and a new one in Gainesville, but they may come further south to wherever you reside. (www.MerrifieldGardenCenter.com) Even if they don't send designers to your area, they are worth a trip to see their huge selection for a day of pleasure and inspiration, or to pick up some plants. Most of my clients are in the Fairfax and greater Washington area, but I am currently living out west below Front Royal, VA on the Shenandoah mountainside - wonderful views. cascio.offsite@gmail.com...See MoreTownhouse Transformation
Comments (0)The owners of this property were completing a full renovation of the house to provide a home for their young family for the next few years. Removing the overgrown existing garden completely, we started with a blank canvas approach to complete a fresh functional outdoor area that maximises every inch of space and provides an attractive setting for the home. Built in bench seating provides the perfect area to sit and watch the children and artificial turf ensures the children can get outside to play all year around. New gates at the entrance provide a secure and attractive entry to the property and ensures the long driveway can be used for toddler's bikes and ride on toys safely. A new storage shed is incorporated on the driveway. Paving down the side of the house provides an attractive outlook from the kitchen, additional storage and easy access to utilities. Planting was kept minimal but with a focus on subtropical plants that will provide interest through colour and foliage texture all year round. Comments (0)Our clients were a young couple with a growing family, who wanted to modernise their home and incorporate the kitchen with the outside entertaining area, to create more of an indoor-outdoor flow. They had their own builder and contractors who removed the wall but hired All About Kitchens to work with them to design the kitchen of their dreams. Before: We created a sleek handless kitchen, with push to open bottom drawers, an integrated dishwasher, black stainless steel sinks and gooseneck taps, and negative detail 20mm Caesar Stone benchtop. They had visited our showroom in Petone, where they were inspired by a similar display but with integrated lighting. After: They liked the idea of breaking up the kitchen colour by adding the woodgrain look and have incorporated pull-out fittings in the corner for ease of access, oil pull near the stove, and built-in bin units. Their preference was drawers over cupboards, and to fully utilise the drawer height we used internal drawers for cutlery and utensils. After: They required a large walk-in pantry with a sliding door that would also house the microwave. These clients have been great to work with and have been very patient with some of the supply delays due to Covid. They are so happy with the final result and it's such a timeless design that they can enjoy it for a lifetime. Comments (0)Does your lounge need an update? Take a look at the images down below and see how the use of pattern, colour, texture, and furniture placement can transform a room from an outdated and impractical space to a sophisticated, welcoming, and simply put gorgeous area that is perfect for entertaining. This project has beautifully pieced together a rug from Designer Rugs, David Shaw seating, Fabrics by James Dunlop, and a coffee table specially designed by yours truly, DesignworX. Often I see seating in a lounge area placed awkwardly. Sometimes the furniture is all against one wall so you sit in a row like in a movie theatre, sometimes all the seating is pushed to the perimeter of a room and the space between seating is too far away, or all facing into the TV corner when you have the potential of seeing the trees. The key to successful furniture placement is creating a comfortable connection, with the people you are communicating with, and with the focal point of the space. It's not easy to communicate when you are all in a row, so having seating at right angles or opposite means you can connect. If you have an outdoor area, then orientate the furniture to connect with that, if you have a large room... pull the furniture off the walls so you can speak without having to yell across a room. My pet hate is having the TV as the only focal point, a fire or outdoor area is far more inviting. Let's talk YELLOW... Did you know that the yellow wavelength is relatively long and essentially stimulating. The stimulus is emotional, therefore yellow is the strongest colour, psychologically. The right yellow will lift our spirits and our self-esteem and is often seen and used as a bright happy colour. Too much of it, or the wrong tone in relation to the other tones in a colour scheme, can cause self-esteem to plummet, giving rise to fear and anxiety. It can create too much energy in the muscles by activating the motor nerves a some shades of yellow can heighten your anxiety levels and heart rate within about 45 seconds! In the featured lounge, we used yellow in a rich bronze grounding shade to work in with other aged brass elements in the space. It feels warm and cozy and makes a design statement.
