Pool surrrounds and landscaping
We are in the process of planning to renovate the pool pavilion, pool surround and the grass area. I would like to remove the grass and replacing it with paver's. It will be tiered as its on a slight slope. The gate will also be replaced with a wall.
My question is, do I use the same paver's for around the pool or can i use a different product like tech wood? Would like it to 'flow' from one area to another. Any ideas on how to renovate the pool pavilion is also welcomed!

Comments (39)Thanks Orangecamera. It's still a work in progress and mud everywhere Sorry we did look at having the steps' off set' but it didn't seem to go with only three steps and a small area. And about the zen well the cats are doing that for us much to our disappointment (it's still like a litter box to them). We went to the garden supply place still not knowing what kind of stones we were getting. We stood in front of all the bins (there where many). We even looked at mixing some. The grey stones had a bin more the size we wanted but we ended up getting the golden fleck. It was a little smaller, which was a shame, the bigger ones were so mixed in their grading it looked too messy. So this is what we finished up with. It was seagardens that got me thinking away from grey and nwduck mentioning the drainage. So this has really helped. Also everyone seem to think the wooden steps needed to go a lot lower. Comments (27)Thanks for all the great ideas everyone and sorry I didn't explain the polycarbonate a bit better :) This is along the lines of what we'll be using... http://www.psp.co.nz/building-brands/corrugated-sheeting/suntuf-polycarbonate The area is an absolute sun trap and we're hoping to use it as an extension to our living space, especially on rainy days! I've just sent my husband out to get a few pots of different stains for is to try - darkest brown (cedar) and a lighter brown (rustic oak) both by Cabots + the black we already have. Hopefully we can decide between one of those! I probably should have mentioned we will have black aluminium pool fencing running along the top of the second retaining wall - so the real question is do we keep everything black (pool fencing, horizontal fence, retaining walls and pergola) or do we go with a dark (or even light) brown for the pergola and retaining walls.... Comments (19)Love blue tiles. Depending on how much sun and how hot your pool gets in the summer should dictate what color it is. We live in Arizona, so cool blues work best. Our neighbor has brown tile and a dark pebble tech pool. Looks like a swimming hole and gets really hot - 94% water in the summer. Comments (3)Hi Angela, this space has mega potential. For starters it has fantastic symmetry. However as the space is very long I would recommend you break it down into 2 zones. The front zone as the place for bride and bridesmaids to get ready and the end wall zone as the sleeping area. Divide the space with a set of luxurious pooling drapes, and keep the lighting in the sleeping zone dimmable wall hung bedside lights and and a conversation piece chandelier. Go for warm colours and a touch of gold. A high oversized shallow tufted bedhead will add luxe. A upmarket Bohemian theme could work well. The bridal preparation zone needs to be well lit, (daylight) bars, with floor to ceiling opposable mirrors, (side lit also). Remember this is a functioning space, there needs to be ample hanging for dresses/clothing, clear space, formalish seating (no bride or bridesmaid wants to get stuck in a low lounging sofa and need a hand-up. Have sideboard space for jewellery, flower holders etc and keep the colour palette very neutral, a blackwhite, and mid range neutral grey will work with any bridalware. 4 years agoI’m part way through a backyard reno and have finished out gazebo. Was mainly just updating. We have used new tech timber in a lighting colour (composite decking) plus we have pavers around the pool (to replaced with new pavers soon). I think you can mix the two if similar tones. Our decking gets unbelievable hot. Not sure of your climate but we are in Perth. The decking in the gazebo doesn’t get any direct sun in summer so it isn’t a problem but we have a decked area off the back door and by lunchtime you can’t sand on it for more than a few seconds. I wouldn’t recommend it for around a pool. I will be making sure our new pavers are light enough in colour to be coolish under foot.
We pulled up pavers to put in grass as it was very hard and hot, although it comes with it’s one drawbacks.Our gazebo has a small area with sink, fridge and a TV (rollershutter covers it when not in use) and we have used shutters to keep weather out so it can be used in all seasons.
