Need Help finishing off dining room - Artwork and centrepiece!
yes we entertain a lot, therefore we have this long concrete table (approx 5m).
unfortunately i have no pendant or wall light fittings in this area and its a double story so not really an option to add any at this stage.
i need artwork or something on this blank wall behind dining table. House is fairly casual (a lot of tan and few industrial looking pieces) would like something that really compliments other areas but is also maybe a bit more formal as the area is a formal dining. it is the centre of my house and a wall that stares in your face. i have quite a bit of colour in my house (soft pink, mustard yellow, blue, tan, greys & my dinnerset is mostly blue) so thinking i might need something reasonably
calm on the wall.
also - the brown leaves and urn in the centre of table doesnt have to stay. if there are any ideas for table decor to compliment artwork, that would be helpful.

3 years agoStart with painting the outside colorbond fence a dark colour, the fence will not stand out as much.
You need two elongated centre pieces, maybe incorporating a natural timber to soften the cement table. And a runner in a textured fabric that runs the length of the table.
A colourful artwork on the wall between the windows. Doesn't matter what colour plates you use, they are not there all of the time. But the room needs some colour and texture.
Look into track lighting. This can be installed onto ceiling. Maybe position one of the lights, to shine onto the painting.

3 years agoWhat an absolutely fabulous table/ tables, I would add a pendant or pendant lights above table and a gorgeous concrete vase or you could use your existing one and just add to the foliage, add large modern artwork between windows... gorgeous.

Looks like you might be a bit uncomfortable with the great post idea of moving your sofa out into the room away from wall. If so, could you accept putting it diagonally from the entrance doorway, across that corner where it is, stopping at the edge of your window? That's a bit of a move outward, still can see the fp and tv, and show off your new rug, which could go diagonally in front of the sofa. Then, if you like that, after a while you could move it on out as Deb K suggests. Sometimes intermediate steps are more doable for us than those big changes.Same with painting; if you could first paint just the fp wall, then later paint other walls...seems some color would really make it more homey. Comments (18)squeakerd - it is really hard to get a perspective on the whole area but if this is part of a much larger area then I feel you need to first decide just what you want as the end result. Do you just want your entire area to be one open plan or do you want to break it down into visually defined areas within the open plan. As you have the area now, I don't feel any cohesiveness between your table and the sideboard, I think I would move the sideboard to the end wall, it looks more like it would belong there, even just by the shape of the room. Definitely a larger rug will define the space better - just be careful of any trip hazard with the door nearby - but before you decide on the rug, consider window dressings and whether you want things plain or introduce some bold patterns and what colours look best in the area. Artwork can go where your sideboard is now, but again think colours and impact of design on the whole area. It is all very well to build a room around one piece, but you need to look at the impact that piece will have on other items and what limitations it could cause. I would suggest you set aside some serious time to look through photos on Houzz, especially if you can find areas similar to yours, till you find what appeals to you, put the photos into your ideas book and use that to build your room. Comments (12)Hey! Great space! The table is too small for the space, it would immediately help if you had head chairs on either end of the table. It would read larger. If you're interested in a new dining set, try a round dining table, seating at least 6 for size. You need something to define each space, a new furniture arrangement could help. 3 years agoSomething like this will work , I find those curtains to dark and there is so many of them. I would simplify window covers with automated blinds and in lighter colour.

3 years agoDesigner Boys Artwork is our recommendation. Either a large print or a series of 4 or 6 hung together to form a large art square on the wall.
