Your groovy orange fixtures are the feature. You already have a busy mustard colour tile on the floor and it is a small room. I would be very careful about introducing another feature colour and open shelves as it may become too visually busy. If you had to bring in another colour consider either matching the orange, or co-ordinating with the mustard floor tile. Grey is very contemporary and you have a period bathroom. Grey is also the mission brown of the future.

So open shelves above a toilet at head height? What would they store and how wide would they be? For towels you need a decent width - in this photo I think the shelves are too narrow for towels. Does a bloke ever use that loo? How is his aim?

don't paint a feature wall ..the bricks are already a feature wall and please keep the Orange fixtures...anyone can have chrome and the Orange are vintage gems..we had yellow in a previous house but what about a feature pendant light?..if you didn't have what looks like a shower i'd vote for a big paper lantern to complement the 70's theme

Haha -- everyone ribs me , because I say add colour , go a warm bright orange . And here you all are saying how great it looks ! It certainly does look great !

Embrace the 70's , add an orange shaggy bathmat if you can find one , and a really nice lamp shade . Orange would be the default for a shade , but I just pulled out a ( broken fishing line sorry ) triangular pyramid type shade that shows thinking outside the square haha !

Thanks Pottsy99, I went to Bunnings and Kmart today looking for light shades and something for the wall behind the loo but no luck.
So keep the ideas and pictures coming please. I’ll have a look on marketplace too I suppose.

Don't paint the wall dark behind the toilet as the shape of the toilet will be accentuated. Leave brickwork as is. Use wood for the shelves to add another material element. I don't mind the orange mirror but thought a larger simple mirror would look more contemporary. Funky light fitting..perhaps orange? I would go back to a white toilet seat and silver fittings (apart from orange mirror if want that). I also wondered about painting the ceiling a colour to give it wow factor. If you did do that then the current orange accessories I would remove. It's quite a funky space! You can get some funky plastic hooks that look like animal tails and they come in funky colours if you need something for the towels near the shower end.

I would ditch the orange toilet seat as it looks tacky but add an orange light shade, preferably over vanity or to one side.

What about a framed print of some sort (something with a pop of orange) on the wall behind the toilet instead of the planned shelves? I’ve framed up a lot of ‘art’ tea towels and they look great! Easy, cheap, seem to withstand any moisture they may encounter in a wet room too.

I don't mind your shower curtain but something really bright wouldprobably tie it all together. you won't find anything in a shop in Australia though. I'd look online from the US like Anthropologie.

Looks great Kerri, unless you absolutely love the orange, I would go with your chrome, you could add a timber wall to behind toilet for a great look, Bunnings sell stick on wood look tiles that look fantastic horizontally, or paint or leave it,timber shelves to highlight the floor would look great also.

Lovely retro job ! I don’t mind the shower curtain as it blends in with the tiles and is light . The only bit that I am not too keen on is the light shade . Love what you have done with the warm timber shelves and also the “ tacky “ toilet lid . You have made a fun little room !

You could spray the light fitting with orange. Use many light coats. It could look amazing
