Wardrobes Installation Fail.
Hi all we had some built in wardrobes installed and the company who installed didn’t do the greatest job. We aren’t getting them to fix so we won’t go into that.
Basically the property is an older home and the walls aren’t plumb. The have installed the wardrobes not taking into account the uneven walls. The side panels have big gaps between the wall and the panel and haven’t been scrubbed to suit the wall and aren’t fixed to the wall property.
Also the master bedroom has cornice at the ceiling. The wardrobes are full length and they have basically finished the wardrobes off with cut outs from the cornice (looks terrible).
See photos attached - Any advice on what to do to fix the gaps and cornice issue would be appreciated.

Comments (121)I would suggest you take out the cabinet that is to the right of the stove and use it elsewhere in the house -- perhaps in the bathroom or dining room with a hutch above it. Then, I would suggest you have someone install a lazy susan cabinet in the corner between the sink counter and the stove, meaning you would move the stove down a bit and have a small cabinet/counter top to the right of the stove. I would suggest you have the cabinets refinished in white and then paint the walls a pastel you like. If you would prefer white walls, then add white-painted crown molding and paint the ceiling a light neutral blue, such as Sherwin Williams Niagara Falls Blue. Then, I would suggest you choose a favorite accent color and use this sparingly in accessories like towels, pot holders, small vases or floral arrangements, and a valence above the triple windows. For a genuine 1940s look, you might have white ceramic square tiles with a rectangular red border installed as a back splash behind and above the stove. If you are replacing counter tops, I would suggest a light color such as white with a beige or light grey vein or striation for some sort of pattern. Comments (29)I am planning to add scatter cushions and think if I do a pair of larger ones for each end so they go over the arms to creat height at each end, and a couple of smaller ones, I want to bring some colour in too. My wife suggested we talk to a local real estate agent, so i think that is a good idea... just that Im not sure how helpful they are likely to be if we arent selling yet :) As for saving for our dream house, I dont disagree, however if doing this up nicely over the next ~5 years or so while we live here nets us some extra in the eventual sale, then that of course will help us as well. Interesting thing happened today actually. I got a knock on the door and one of the older neighbours asked if he could take some lemons from the tree. I of course said yes. Anyway he was telling me he had lived in the street for 40 years. I asked him if the house had always looked like this, and he said no that ~30 years ago the old old owner did a massive renovation and pulled off the timber and put up the bricks and gutted the inside of the house. Comments (0)We have a builder replacing parts of our 1970's roof. A 'change of pitch' flashing between a 45degree and 10 degree roof has been fixed 25mm from the bottom. NZ Roofing code of practice clearly has an example of this flashing requiring a perlin at the top of the flashing so that fixing through the corrugate does not penetrate the flashing and also Eliminates stresses placed on that flashing by hard fixing two separate roofing areas. Our builder is claiming that because he has replaced the roofing elements with the same materials and fixed them in the same place then following this roofing practice is not required. We had the roof checked by another roofer, who said he would have failed his exam had he installed this element that way. We want feedback and confirmation that our belief is that regardless of the work being done by a building professional they must apply current building standards when doing their job. 3 years agoContact a ceiling company. They can install new cornices around the wardrobe and sides. Plaster cornices.
Or if able to do this yourself, then Bunnings have a range of plaster cornices.

3 years agoEven something as simple as installing a scotia trim, usually for floors, I think would solve your problem.
They are also available from Bunnings.

Notice the cornice work and the side of robes, which covers any uneven walls. All the best.
