Checked with Dept of Fair Trading ?

Was the tiler recommended ?

Did you see any of his previous work ?

Did he show photographs of his tiling ?

Did he supply and names of previous clients as a reference ?

The walls, cement rendered

or Vilaboard on timber frame ?

Walls plumb and flat ?

The cost of tiles

Wall $.... sqm Floor $....

Tile supplier ?

Less expensive tiles or tiles from tile outlet warehouses, can be twisted.

The cost of tiling

tiling @ $.......sqm or a whole renovation cost $....

including waterproofing ?

Cuts around the niche are woeful....

God is in the details, and if they haven't been resolved and documented so that everybody on the job knows what is happening then you can end up with this type of messy situation. In an ideal world, all walls and shower niches would be perfectly square and plumb. And the client would have decided on the tile size so that the niche could be designed and built to avoid cutting tiles around the perimeter. And all tiles no matter how cheap they are would be perfectly flat with no bowing or twisting. And all tilers would know how to tile and take pride in their work and redo it at their cost if it wasn't perfect. Unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world and there are sometimes elements that are beyond the control of your tiler.

No help, but why wasn,t the niche made the same size as one tile. Then extra cuts could of been omitted?

In the last picture , it looked like the tile size varies , and that it may actually be the tiles are partially to blame , but a close look I wonder if that tile is cracked ? If so , who did that , did you accept that , or did the tilers break it and hope you didn't realise , or am I wrong ? Did you supply the tiles ? Where they in great condition , or various thicknesses ?

I'm not trying to be clever , or blame you or the tile manufacturer or retailer , just working through the various 'what-ifs' ?

No money has been paid, we found the tiler on HiPages, reviews were good, we have a meeting tonight to discuss where to go from here, the tiler accepts the shower area needs redoing, but as for the rest hes stands by his work, the tiles where supplied by us, but they are not cheap ones a, yes there are several cracked or broken tiles hidden in this job :( silicone work was also very excessive, we guess to hide the many imperfections

Beware taking tiles off may damage your waterproofing membrane
