it looks like the laundry has been included in the new kitchen, the toilet now opens into the new space and the kitchen has also been expanded into the living area..??.. we need dimension of all the rooms to make worthwhile suggestions but the new cabinets don't leave much room for living room furniture and laundry so they should plan the carport reno at the same time as this may not be the best location for the new kitchen

Hi oklouise, the new kitchen is drawn within the footprint of the old kitchen. They want to update the laundry too, but removing walls could be an issue because apparently it’s a kit home (many transported up to Darwin post-cyclone)

The kitchen design is most likely being influenced by their budget and as you said its using the existing footprint of the original. Removing asbestos is costly and if funds permit should look into getting it all done in one hit and start fresh. Tell them to enclose the area so they can expand the kitchen dining in that direction.

If you enclose the carport A would you need p,an ing permission to lose car space? B. Lose window onto kitchen.
I would lose window onto carport regardless and change the fridge and pantry to that back wall, It will look better having bench at living end,
The island can be deeper as 1100 is ample walkway space so I would bring it forward to align with short wall and maybe deepen it to gain some storage on the back side as small houses never have enough storage in my opinion, or maybe I have too many unused vases and platters!

This is most likely designed by a cabinet maker who doesn't have much experience...or just simply doesnt care... Regardless of the budget, there are so many aspects could be improved. This kitchen is either functional nor looks good...

Just to list a couple.

1. Fridge right on the end of the kitchen which blocks the view and make the kitchen look cramped.

2. There's zero bench space between the sink and the cooktop. If they did that to save cost to move services then could be acceptable but the old cooktop was in a different location anyways... So why would you do that?

3. Why does the peninsular not line up with the nib wall?

I'm sorry to sound mean but this design gives me anxiety...
