I am not sure how a bench seat will help given the nib wall seems to stop you moving the table so far to the outside wall. A round table is just too wide for space.
Personally I would modify the kitchen to have an island not a peninsula. This will help with the tight table space as given another entry point,
I would move the front door to the right so it is opening against the longer nib wall, I am however concerned about the narrow space for fridge. Is it wide enough for your fridge and the required clearance on each side?

Ah I see; I guess I am asking for a bit of artistic licence really. Agree the fridge/pantry area has been drawn poorly.

I can't move the entry door but I can possibly remove the deep nib next to the fridge. (Have to check with the engineer on that one.) The glass door to the deck will be hinged and around 1000mm wide.

I've attached some more measurements if that helps. Just after some better ideas.

what is the distance from the outside walls to all boundaries, are there any special views and where does the rear entry lead to? any reason why the new deck couldn't be outside that doorway instead of at the front to make more space for a bigger kitchen and dining?

within your current floorplan something like this adding to the idea of the window seat is a banquette setting the return island bench would have small back between it and the bench seating to keep things on the benchtop

the special views are north from the balcony of bushland. I can't change any of the entry doors or windows. I'm just looking for internal kitchen/dining layout ideas.

This probably wouldn't fit with windows etc but I'd consider flipped kitchen 90 degrees and having long bench across both current kitchen and dining and then a large island in front. Then I'd place dining in front with aspect looking out to deck and view.
I'd look at possibly extending back kitchen bench all way to deck for outdoor kitchen although that would require some sort of protection.

my suggestions keep the original floor plan and uses a longer 750 deep peninsula (no stools) with storage access from both sides but i prefer an extending table with room for extra chairs and a small sideboard or cocktail trolley.. i've left a small section of nib wall between kitchen and dining and used a wide doorway so that the kitchen extension doesn't need to match ceilings with the original..but make sure that the fridge will open in the right direction and allow fridge drawers to be removed within the alcove..a sliding door for the pantry allows access when the 90cm wide glass outside door (with screen) is open and the kitchen window could be narrower to allow wall cabinets for cups, glasses and breakfast crockery and i've also made the new cabinet in the living area wider to increase storage and screen the bedroom and bathroom doors and the space inside the front door would make an ideal set down space and small study nook

Your space is very tight so looking forward to seeing what you do. Would it be possible for you to make the deck an indoor outdoor dining to allow for much needed existing internal space.

The new cupboard backing onto the bathroom could become a laundry cupboard I don't like sharing a laundry especially for what will now be a 3 bedder

This brings me back to needing extra space and seating, 3 bedrooms means more people to use it and dining, living furniture

Sydney prices aren't for the faint hearted that's why I asked if you would be allowed to use the deck as dining, it could be enclosed with a large sliding door with a Juliet style glass panel across the back etc.

unfortunately not. that would mean losing our 10sqm private outdoor space which is required. and we are already losing 2/3 of our existing deck to the extension which is sometimes hard to swallow in planning.

Hi Erin, my two cents worth. It appears to me that the kitchen peninsula or island is restricting the space available. And cutting the space in two.
I suggest looking at a configuration of taking away the peninsula and installing cupboards, prep bench, overhead cupboards along the perimeter of the kitchen, and dining space. Building cupboards either side of window in the dining. This may give you even more storage than a peninsula and not restrict the space.
Having the dining table in the middle of the room.
Just food for thought.

A 3D showing the layout with the Banquette seating, the 600 deep peninsular with a high back to stop food stuff falling onto the seating plus helps screen any mess. I would consider swapping the desk with the Pantry for a better and bigger pantry with the desk at the deck end

ah that's a good visual but the banquette is too boxy in my view. too much built-in and it starts to lose the light airy feel.

the fridge measurement IS wrong. actually it should be 945mm width needed with clearances for opening and a depth of 725mm with clearances. the pantry/fridge area is drawn totally wrong.

Artistic licence without details! This is a kitchen layout that I did for another houzzer. For your situation this shows two separate glass doors but it ca be done with one door and the rest of the opening with bi folds opening up to the deck and view beyond

it looks nice with the bi-fold but I don't fancy the table ajoining the bench. you are effectively sitting in the kitchen, and then later the kids are backing their chairs into you while you do the dishes. it is a hard one to get right.

is there a rule against putting a fridge too close to the glass door? I'm thinking of C P's suggestion of turning the kitcgen 90 degrees and having the fridge on the end on the right.

Picture this if you turn the table, any table 90o and move it slightly towards the living area you will still be "sitting in the kitchen" as you don't have enough space

The appliances can be positioned to suit but the exposed side of the fridge would never be a good idea but then you can do it and draw it to suit. You didn't include the table size or chairs and your,e still in the kitchen but with my door idea at least it will feel more open while still in the kitchen.

regardless of the size and location of the fridge if the kitchen were rotated there's no longer enough space for a table and chairs, the cabinets have to fit into an awkward shape and the whole ceiling needs to be replaced: i much prefer my original suggestion

Erin re the kids getting in the way while you do the dishes try putting them on the other side of the table. and on kids how may do you have.

Because of the kids the bifolds/sliders between internal and external spaces becomes even more important instead of small spaces. Plus consider the outlook through the total space when entering

and not leave the side of the fridge exposed, but with an end panel.

why can't you just have a Nib wall next to the fridge with the doors butting up to that?

I thought the deck had a roof? either way you need something on the western side. Vergola pergola is an excellent way to make the deck usable all year.

No the deck has a retractable awning.

You would have to ensure that there's suitable insulation in the Nib and western walls in the extension the cavity brick in the original part of the building should be OK remember vergola its an opening pergola you would be advised to get a quote but this would certainly work and look better it doesn't have to cover the whole deck
