Tiny House- Opening Kitchen to Living Area

1970’s Tiny House 11m2. We brought this house a year ago and loved it. Since living in it and realising we like to entertain our families. We find it’s just awkward and small. The kitchen is a tiny mess. The last photo is an idea that I have come up with to fix the kitchen and dining area so we can entertain larger group and feel a bit more comfortable in the space.

I don’t know if it will work especially opening the front door straight into our kitchen. I am open to any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this space. It would be much appreciated.

Your house is a lovely home. People of my age late 50's, grew up in these size homes. Your home is almost identical to the one I grew up in, and there was 7 of us!
It's where that wonderful thing of 'sharing' , was learnt. These days sharing a bedroom or a bathroom has been lost. That is why in my posts I always wonder why the toilets are in the bathrooms. How do you get a family ready and go through a normal day if they are not separate.
Sorry, just reminiscing when I saw your plan. You have put it is 11m2. Your home is bigger than that.

Anyway, back to the question.
I think it is a wonderful idea, and example photo looks good.
I would not do a banquet seating, because this restricts you on your configuration for large table gatherings. If you have large seated gatherings you can bring your table into the lounge area.
I would also consult a structural engineer, just to check that the kitchen wall can be removed. You could maybe extend a 400mm deep bench for storage the full length of room. This could also be a servery for large groups, leaving the new island free for prep.
For privacy a screen parallel with the front door, would fix that issue. Have fun. You have a wonderful home.

Hi flair lighting. The back door over by the laundry is the one that would be used by us day to day. as the cars will be parked around the back of the house (maybe under a carport later on) away from our view. When guests arrive they will come in through the front door, which we are having some design issues with. We like it so when you open the front door people can't see straight into your living area. you never know who's gonna knock on your door! i really hear you about the fact that it leads to the bedrooms, but really unsure how to remedy this.also the laundry is by the back door so when you do the washing you can easily nip out the back door to the washing line which is out the back also away from view. our coats and shoes can be stored in the laundry also. was thinking lisa, that maybe a bench seat against the wall as you walk in the front door with a couple of coat hooks for guests? Lol we dont really get guests. In our current home i can count on one hand the amount of times the front door gets used. we just access through our internal garage.... any thoughts.

Hi Cole, I have done a quick sketch for you. This is hard without talking to you directly and learning about your situation, the rest of the house and your requirements. My thought was having a separate space for a tv/ reading lounge facing south and the dining living lounge facing north. the kitchen would connect it all. This is pretty rough and i think you have to double check your room measurements as they are not adding up?! Please let me know if you have any questions or want to explore other options? Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate your help. I think we are on the same track. The rugs I have brought home have fought with the terracotta colour plus the busyness of the small tiles. I did come across this picture on Houzz, which I think looks good. What do you think? It would need some of that burnt orange from the chair upholstery as well as the aubergine to tie in but I liked the dark border line, it matched with the grout.

Thank you for your compliments on my home and for the idea. I never thought of putting a screen at the front door. Also extending the bench for the dinning area like a buffet. I like it 😁 I want to be certain on what I want before I get a builder out to consult with. The more ideas the better.

I think your laundry is big compared to other rooms. Is it possible to expand kitchen into the laundry and incorporate a European laundry somewhere?

If you can remove the wall that would be great. If you swap stove and sink the messiest part of kitchen won’t be on show from front door. And except ending storage along the wall will allow the cupboard in hall to be converted to a basin for toilet, still maintaining some storage
