Plant of the week - Clivia

Hello there, I just wanted to share with you a couple of photos of the Clivia’s growing in my garden at the moment. It’s the sheer brilliance of the colours between the two types that are showing off at the moment.

Both being the Clivia miniata ‘Kaffir Lily/ Belgium Orange’, but each with very different colour and leaf shape. The first being a lighter orange, lighter green leaf colour with a more pointed tip where by the last one is far stronger in its colour, darker green leaves and more rounded at the tip with the added bonus of dark red seed pods.

The name ‘miniata’ is in reference to the flame-coloured flower. Clivia miniata can be found under tree cover, often growing on well drained land growing to 500mm and suckering freely forming large clumps.

A shade lover happy to be placed in and around taller plant stock and in flower when other clivia's are not, making it a valuable addition to the garden. They are long lived and flower reliably every year.
