I assume it is a new build ?

Here's a couple of things I can't understand --

The ensuite juts out from the wall-line -- it doesn't alter the roofline by the looks , but it will add a few more $$$ , and you get another sq metre or so . BUT where the door is is halfway along 1 wall , so the area opposite the toilet is effectively wasted . If you moved the door 50cm one way or the other , and changed where the shower or WC or cabinet is , you'll get more usable space . Its even possible you could make the WIR a little bigger , but its usable as it is , assuming you DON'T actually have shelves on 3 sides ? Shelves om 1 side , or higher up above rails , is expected , the design as drawn isn't .

And the same with the kitchen/butlers pantry . Why isn't there space for a microwave ? Did you specifically want the MW hidden , or was it an oversight ? Personally , I don't care where my MW is , as long as I can get to it , but conversely to me you either hide the mucky stuff only , or you hide everything , or you have everything in the open -- basically , you design it how YOU want in the first place .

Maybe its 'nerves' making you reconsider , but it almost sounds like the designer didn't listen to you -- if that's the case , fixing it now will be 5 times cheaper than fixing it later .

With all due respect to pottsy99 I don't think a designer was involved with the project. It looks like a draftsperson engaged by the builder (not the original poster) for a standard first home buyer product, and the builder is allowing a few little tweaks along the way.

Little things like the sight line to the ensuite toilet, and the number of inefficient corner cupboards show that this has not been given the careful consideration a professional designer would give it.

Everything has been drafted to be as small, mean and cheap as possible to squeeze as much of a checklist into a small building envelope. There is little scope to improve things unless the house is made bigger or space is taken from other rooms.

In the 21st century it is almost irresponsible to "design" a kitchen without a neat recess for a microwave so that it doesn't need to sit on the bench top and eat up valuable real estate. It's a bit like designing a kitchen without a dishwasher recess.

Compact design for a small house needs careful thought and great design to work. It is also hard to do really well. A well designed small home is not everything reduced in size by 75% from a full size home, like this one looks to be.

I was trying to be fairly polite , and used 'designer' to reference whoever designed the plan -- when even an amateur like me can pick up obvious 'design abnormalities' , you can suspect it is someone without too much real experience .

I was going to ask about things like the the cupboard or chimney on the front wall -- it adds character and interest , but then you look at the added complexity to the roofline , and then follow the roofline back , and it gets more complex , and that Why question mark crosses my mind -- a basic floor plan with a complex roofline seems the wrong way around to me .

Depending on your situation, if you are looking at gaining more bench space in the kitchen you could compromise on some other items...Do you need a double sink and a 900mm wide cooktop and a 900mm fridge?

We have our microwave under the bench and that works very well. 300mm wide shelving in the pantry would probably not fit a microwave, our microwave is 400mm deep. Really only useful for food. Our pantry has 500mm shelving/draws and that works well for appliances and food. Could make the far end shelving deeper?

I'm assuming by the overhang on the peninsula bench that you are having seating on the other side of the bench, do people want to sit behind the sink? If you fit the fridge and cooktop on the same wall and move the sink to the spot where the cooktop is, you clear up the whole peninsula bench top area! (Dishwasher could still go on the same side.)

Or you could change up the whole thing and go for an island running the other way and extend the left hand wall cabinets as far as the door/window...

the shelves in the WIP are shown as 30cm deep which is not big enough to use any appliances unless you have a deeper shelf across the back of the WIP but then that's about all that you will be able to use in there.. best location for your MW would be a custom built wall cabinet to the right of the fridge above the counter and i think the WIW IS ok depending on the storage arrangement ie 50cm deep storage on all sides with a 80cm by 1.4m space left for standing rooms.. when you say too small do you mean for standing in or not enough storage space...plan storage to suit what you want to store how many long dresses and coats and suits do you need to store, how many shoes, shirts, jeans etc but i assume the builder will be offering a standard combination but check out DIY wire storage shelves, drawers and baskets to understand the costs before agreeing to any extras as you may find that you could use multifunction chests of drawers as bedside tables and along the entry wall opposite the bed to provides extra storage for eg underwear, jumpers, pJs etc and the ens is arranged as shown to allow for standing room in front of the toilet, vanity and shower with just enough room to get through the shower door.. any other arrangements needs more space..

There appears to be no doors on the ensuite and WIR. As DR Retro has mentioned. The sight lines to toilet are not thought out.
For master bedroom, can you have a built in robe the length of the wall, instead or in addition to the WIR. And install a sliding door on the ensuite bathroom? Unsure of size of bedroom?
For the pantry. Move the fridge to the end of kitchen. Then, either extend the bench across and have a 600 mm wide cabinet to incorporate pantry items and microwave. Or have a full pantry cupboard with bench and microwave on the bench. There are so many options for pull out pantry systems that give as much storage as a walk in pantry. Create another storage cupboard opposite linen in hallway.
There so many options, think outside of the square little room.

I forgot to mention that we requested to place a cavity sliding door in the ensuite. Moving the vanity to the front of the toilet is a great suggestion. I was worried about the shower door being too close to the vanity (door banging it) and pointed this out to the builder. She just said it shouldn’t be a problem and then moved on to other things so I just brushed it of as well. But I’ll definitely request to move the vanity and possible moving the location of the cavity sliding door as well. The masters is 3.3m x 3.5m.

The reason I wanted the microwave in the WIP and not under the bench is because of my 15 month old daughter. All of the display homes that had the microwave under the bench, she’d go up and play with it. I just think having way to many appliances in the kitchen it would take up so much bench space.. seeing I only have a small one on the side of the fridge.

But thank you and I’ll definitely talk about this to my husband and see if we can adapt the changes you guys have suggested. I’ll definitely push for the changes in the ensuite!! I guess I cant do much about the robes and the tiny pantry..

I would always recommend the microwave at bench height. But if this is not possible then under bench is a good compromise.
Noting that children grow to be little people then big people, and the kitchen will stay as is. So best to get the kitchen, correct the first time. And you are spending your money. Don't let the building consultant brush over anything.

With differentways kitchen design, the photo I posted earlier would fit this set up perfectly. Imagine the wall of shelving and bench with appliances, with the hinged door for closing when required. A much better accessible space.
