Comments (93)Oh, okay, may need to clarify some more. If you get a new 2 seater in place of the 2 white chairs, fine, but no blue chair at all next to the 'new' 2 seater. Won't be right with a blue chair too. So what ones are you planning to recover?. If getting rid of part of it, not understanding. 2 different styles placed next to each other won't look right. I wouldn't like old blue fabrics next to new fabrics or next to 2 different styles of furniture. New 2 seater and old blue chair next to each other, not good :)...See MoreWhat goes with green!?
Comments (28)You need light and bright. Being rented is tough. First change out the drapes with to the floor length. Cream with a horizontal stripe of brown to match or furniture. This will 1. get rid of the horrid things hanging there 2. pull the initial visual to that wall instead of the floor. Tall and high colors ( mango, aqua, yellow) decorations on your mantel with shorter cream and brown items. Then a large square table in the middle, painted distressed cream, with high color items setting on it. DIY project or Ikea. Comments (13)There is nothing worse than ceiling-mounted lights--harsh shadows, flat lighting. They are strictly for utility. I would put a large-ish, shallow cylindrical shade on them and put nothing more than a 15-watt bulb in them. Use them strictly for lighting your way as you walk through the room. I agree with Vincent; the chair in the corner doesn't fit at all, nor does the one under the A/C unit (put that one with its mate behind the love seat). And the curtains look smooshed. I think the problem with the bookcases is that they are uninteresting. Did you buy books-by-the-yard? What are all those identical books? They are visually uninteresting. I'd get rid of some of them and get some colorful ceramics/glass/photos. The room is absolutely overwhelmed with furniture. It needs one less love seat. Do you really need all of them? Pushing them against the walls/curtains so tightly just visually emphasizes the fact that there is too much furniture. I don't think a mirror above the fireplace will work. When people are sitting down (which is most of the time), all they will see is a reflection of the ceiling--the plain, white ceiling. Get some real art in there with some color....See Moreljohn77

3 years agoDo you have the energy and time for a slip cover? I can recommend Ikea sofas with custom covers. There is even a faux leather option.
I went through my store of inspiration pics. Leather seems to be difficult to accomodate in a coastal Hamptons theme. Where a leather is used it’s a tan/saddle colour and paired with a lighter cloth sofa or chairs. Do you like any of the looks?

3 years agoYou are right - leather is the go. You could combine a soft and mid grey, or bone and tan, depending on what palette you like. You are looking for the 2 sofas to relate to each other rather than matchy matchy? My preferred look too. You could use the same sofa in different shades, that's an easy get together. Or decide on one being more of a standout - like a mid century style wooden sofa with leather cushions, and then keep the other one simple.
The top photo is that mid century style and the bottom shows a sofa that would coordinate with it. (similar wood legs and square edges). I know it's in fabric but it comes in leather. And it shows you what 2 of the same sofa in different colours would look like (both leather of course).

2 years agoHave a long three seater on one side and a ottoman/ seat on the other side. Have one in a cream and one in a tan. So they don't match. Ottoman like the one being used as coffee table.
