Hi, I’m seeing a modern kitchen and lounge, then a dining area more antique style with old table balanced with timber unit and mirror. Those three objects together balance and if you replace the unit with white the mirror would need to go too in my opinion. Or maybe moved to other wall but it may be too small there.

Where would you keep the extra 2 dining chairs if you had a longer side board? my suggestion would be to replace the timber side board with a white one that works with your living room cabinets this would seem less bulkier and blend into the wall. Once this is done you could either keep the timber framed mirror or paint it to match the white sideboard. You have a lovely home

I would either put the dining chairs at the table or store them upstairs. Would definitely look to replace the mirror as well or painting is also a good idea. Thanks.

I also seem to be the different one -- I'd get a modern white dining table with big solid , at least 100mm square legs in white satin to match the rest of the cabinets and walls and lamp and ( you really like white ! ) . . . . . The chairs would work with that table , the mirror reflects that choice haha ( pun intended ) , and the sideboard won't look too bad where it is .

Maybe you have a sentimental attachment to the table , but I just see older and not all that sought after , but as Kate says , it's your choice !

You could find a white sideboard but with a timber top to match the table. This is what we did.

you could also use a simple larger black sideboard and have all the chairs at the table

I can't really see sideboard but it seems inoffensive and works with mirror. A larger one might have more storage capacity but could also make the room seem cluttered.

if I was changing this room just for aesthetic reasons I'd lose the generic brown leather chairs as that's what really dates the space. however I appreciate they may seem a practical choice.

Yes, they are white and light oak frames.

@julie herbert I hope it’s ok to ask your advice - Do you think that this would work? It’s from Early Settler and the mirror from Alfresco Emporium. I don’t want it to be too Hampton’s or Country Colonial if that makes sense! I’m thinking I would switch over the knobs to silver on the buffe to match the lounge ones.

I think it's probably too country/hamptons for you. Maybe look at Matt Blatt online?

I would go with a large round mirror, Kmart have an 80cm one for $30, I have one and it’s just gorgeous and the price is amazing,being round adds a bit more glamour and a more modern look, it’s easier to display beautiful items on the buffet, try Temple and Webster, Freedom, that white tassie oak is on Ebay, a more contemporary buffet would look great with your other cabinets in your kitchen.

I don’t usually give advice as I’m not an expert. However felt I needed to here. I love the idea above about a white and timber buffet to match your barstools. However the thing that stands out to my eye is your dining chairs. The table will work with more modern chairs and maybe white ones which will lighten the whole area?
