I think you will be hard pressed to find a better look for your home quite honestly. This colour scheme has been well thought out and is period correct. If you jump on Pinterest and search heritage home exteriors you will find most of the homes (Australian and otherwise) of the same period are actually done in similar schemes.

Not to mention that paint job could easily buy you a new kitchen, car or pool. There's a lot of work in that.

Agree it’s lovely the way it is. But if you want a change consider starting with swapping the cream for white throughout. The background colour would get a freshen up with a white trim. I do really like an all white exterior but I think you’d be cheating this house of its character by doing one.

I would keep the colours to the same balance you have. But choose a new colour set based on replacing cream with white. So then green goes to? It could be a fresher green, but should give the step in density you have now. Similar approach with the dark trim
Colour is so personal. Start with a mood board of your current colours. Then add new sets beside for comparison of colour density. It’s too big a house to go simILAR shades of white and light colours. IMO

I have never liked the green and maroon. The house was painted right before we bought the house and is now in need of a repaint as it is starting to weather a bit.

I did think about just replacing the maroon with another colour, but seeming the house is so tall, it would require scaffolding. So if we are going to go to that much effort, might as well get the whole thing done at the same time.

I can see your Pinterest board , but I don't like them on your place . It has a certain style and era , you need to retain and acnowledge that IMO . That is what everyone has been trying to say -- it suits your house . Be objective -- blow up the pictures of your house , and then hold up each of those Pinterest schemes , and it doesn't look 'right' .

Personally , the only other combo I would consider would be a light powder blue as the main wall colour , and 2 or 3 darker blues for the features . But not only would it be expensive , and IMO changing for the sake of change , but if you look at some of the darker green pieces like the frames around each leadlight , there would be a lot of work to change those colours .

Have a look at say Dulux Symphony Red or even Marrakesh as alternatives to the Maroon -- both a bit brighter and redder , and I guess not 100% authentic , but they would give a lift and an interesting twist , whilst nodding towards the history . The rest do as needed and/or as the budget dictates .

Here is a similar period house using the same duck egg blue ground as your house. The only difference is the lack of the maroon. All dark green and duck egg blue looks very good if you are just wanting to tone down the heritage aspect.

Its a beautiful paint job (credit to the painter!) and true heritage colours - but... although Im a true aussie I confess I have always disliked this particular heritage combo of the red/green/cream combination, combined with all the elaborate trims and fretwork is just too busy (sorry to anyone who thinks this is sacrilege) and this tone of cream tends to always look dirty even when freshly painted. You are the one who lives there so you should love it, not tolerate it!

However please dont go with the grey/white combination - leave this for new builds that are trying to pretend to be heritage homes! And too dark a colour as the main wall colour may end up looking like the Adams Family home

You could just paint over the maroon with a darker tone of the same green but personally I like the sage/off white combination on your pinterest board, it is a soft combination and would compliment the fretwork beautifully. Ive always felt the prettiest heritage homes are the ones that stick with a colour scheme that uses various tones from the one colour group and puts the lightest tone on the fretwork and windows, like the images below - the three different colours on your home is just too much for me!

I like the contrast in the pic posted by BlackBamboo which I find missing in the latest two pics. I find them a bit boring. Nice but.

I'm in agreement with Littlethommo on sticking to one colour and using different tones to bring out detailing.

I like a more dusky blue tone for main house colour, I think it needs to be paired with a good white to give it the modern feel you're after. I enjoyed your idea books, looks like you've got a clear idea of where you're headed with your style, that's half the battle really.

Thanks allthreeofus. I was beginning to get worried when everyone was saying that I should stick with the existing colour scheme. I have never liked it, but thought I was alone.

Progress report…have gone against general consensus and opted for moving away from the traditional colours. The painting is not yet completed but am personally loving the transformation.

I love it how it is, just beautiful, have you tried a sample with monument, interesting to see contrast, may look bit harsh!! But can’t wait to see final photo .

Done. The painters have been amazing. May choose a different front door colour one day but loving the transformation.
