Functional Home Office and Kids drop-in Zone - Before & After

This interior of this house, circa 2000, was built with too many openings into rooms and in fact, the entire ground floor section comprising a lounge/dining/kitchen/family/study area was one complete space.

Client brief:

To create a home office which can be closed off for privacy and sound attenuation and to be used during the day as well as at night time. This was also to be away from the sleeping area and have natural light. It is to accommodate 2 full-time people and to have a drop-in zone for children to use a PC. The client was very keen on having not just a desk but a breakout area to relax and contemplate.

During Construction:

Walls were closed off and a door was installed for access to an existing TV/family room at the rear of the house. The first existing study zone under the staircase downstairs was made into much needed full height storage area whilst the office area upstairs adjacent to the bedrooms became a hang out zone for the children.

The result is a functional office zone/room which has fun colours and fun furniture. The drop-in zone for the children has a yellow glass panel where they can write notes with a marker and rub then off when required. The client was very keen to have a similar space to their workspace in the city and it was fully wired up for all sorts of telecommunications. There is plenty of desk space and shelving. This home office was built prior to COVID-19 and has been a positive asset to the clients.
