Boring house looking for ideas on how to update
Comments (32)Hi definitely remove the x bars on the deck balustrade. Landscape close to the house so it grounds the house. Trees will make it look less bare. Chose some that work for your area, that are evergreen, and are not going to grow really big. With a really plain house - dark colors will make it look better. Dark Grey, or black with a warm tone so it doesn't have a blue undertone in it. Make sure it is a warm grey or black. Use green foliage around it. Paint out the pergola in the dark grey too or white if you want a different look. Fill in the balustrade where the x is removed with plants in front of those areas. Grow a vine up the pergola that is nice....See MorePlease critique our house plan
Comments (17)Thanks Mel. We'll see what we can do to make the rumpus enclosed - it's probably more of a "man cave" at the moment :) Grandad had a dining table in his current place (which is bigger) and got rid of it because he never used it. He also wants more bench space than he currently has. So, this was a deliberate choice rather than a compromise due to lack of space. You've reminded me now that someone did warn us earlier in the design process about the back and forth between wardrobe and bathroom becoming annoying over time. We don't currently have an en suite so it feels wonderfully convenient for us by comparison. However, that feeling will change if we realise it could have been even better. We did have the en suite off the wardrobe in some designs but have been warned this can lead to dampness in your clothes no matter how well ventilated the bathroom is (especially in Auckland's humidity). Would love to hear people's experiences of this configuration - good and bad. On top of that, there are lovely private bush views to the south so we've tried to make the most of those....See MoreNew Home plans complete.
Comments (1)I chose a bench first then cabinets as I could only afford laminate and didn't want to see a black edge on benches, so needed to be dark. If you can afford stone etc you have an easier ride! Flooring last. Bench should match floor, cabinets should match splashback ( light/ dark/ tones etc ) so I heard !...See MoreHow can I improve the appearance of these outdoor stairs? Any ideas?
Comments (0)These stairs go down to my daughters house. They are both narrow and steep with quite a drop on one side. Does anyone have any suggestions on how they could be improved?...See MoreHU-462354263
