We have just purchased a new home and we don’t have the money to renovate just yet i would like to make it a little more bright and modern any advice on paint etc would be appreciated
Congrats. Lovely view is that all your land? I’d ditch the curtains day I get keys. Paint the woodwork and walls natural white then sit with it a while and enjoy the view. Think of this as base coat. Alternatively paint wood black, but the sliding door and adjacent window look like they are seperate so a bit odd if contrast like now. Light fittings next. Then ask pottsy for colour. Burnt orange? Kitchen looks like you could ditch the peninsula in favour of a deeper island.
Thanks Kate yes, we have 40 acres so excited but we pretty much have just paid for the pretty view and land, the house needs work but i wanna save a little before renovating so wanna work with what we have... i was thinking white also try and blend the kitchen and the walls i have rustic raw wood kitchen furniture so wanna blend that too, and the curtains make my skin crawl you should see the green and red room lol!
yeah take down curtains and paint everything a nice white. unless you really need the insulation I wouldn't bother repacking curtains in living areas for a while until you know how things will turn out and just enjoy your gorgeous views.
We used dulux duck egg blue with a bright white trim in the kitchen. It's such a great colour as it seems to suit everyone's tastes and doesn't seem to date like other colours. A few country touches to suit the vista would help warm it up too. I know everyone suggested white, but it makes everything look so rental property, unless you have great updated fixtures. I think a soft colour on the walls would help.
Can't recommend enough changing all the washers and wd40ing the door hinges, and replacing the light bulbs with warm LEDS, then everything 'feels' better. its a simple low-cost upgrade.
Oh and I remember now, I chose blues because the tile is a bright orange terracotta and I can't change it yet, and also we have a lot of timber furniture in that orangey stain, so going to the opposite of the colour wheel (blue) brings some balance. that should mean a soft blue would work in your kitchen and balance the timber flooring.
What a great view, great ideas suggested, you could add a few modern accessories to your kitchen, a lovely centrepiece for your table, maybe a pendant, a roller blind at kitchen window, these items can all be purchased at Target, Kmart, Bunnings for a low cost, branches from your garden for a beautiful vase on your table and you have a beautiful kitchen, dining area without breaking the bank.
