Color scheme for interior repaint job?
Thinking of repainting house interior – after 30 years in what was then a new house.
Currently we have a lot of varnished timer i.e. skirting boards, window sills, doors and door frames etc – and also built in robes in bedrooms. The walls throughout are a very neutral white type of color – and our preference here would be to stay with whitish (rather than pinks or greys or whatever)
However we are happy to repaint all that varnished timber to a solid color – but have a quandary about color scheme.
The default choice would be to have them white as well – maybe the same as the walls and maybe a slight gloss compared to walls. –
For example I've looked at pictures with all white woodwork in a bedroom for example – and reckon it looks good
The complication however we have is that all our windows are aluminium framed – and mostly full to the floor. So there's a lot of aluminium and it's dark brown at that.
So right now we have the dark brown aluminium frames sitting inside varnished timber windows sills and surrounds – and then painted white walls.
We could start the process by choosing (a particular version of ) white for the window sills to blend with the walls (and wardrobes) etc. But .... I then wonder if that would look odd given the contrast between what would be the dark brown aluminium and the "new" whitish painted timber surrounds and walls.
OR – should we choose a different solid paint color for the current timber?
If so – Is there an alternative paint color that blends better with the dark brown aluminium – but also blends properly with the (whitish) painted walls? For example light brown that was halfway between the two
If this was the case we'd presumably have to make this the same timber color through the rest of house – even hallways where there are no windows and just timber skirting and doors contrasting with walls.
Any thoughts would be appreciated
