EVERYTHING looks 50 years old .

I'd be tempted to rip out the front fence , the shrub/trees , the sloping pathway , the wrought iron , the carport , the gate to the left , probably the boundary fences , and start again . Even the lawn looks like cows have grazed there for 50 years -- if you have the budget , get readylawn laid , or hire a rotary hoe and have a go yourself with grass seed .

Do some modern gardens along under the windows , maybe rock or bark as a base , leafy green plants , brown grasses , yellow leaved plants , red plants that aren't roses ( cause they are more than 50 years old ! ) .

Do some charcoal fences around the sides , pretty much whatever you want along the front . Maybe the standard white picket fence -- still works , pretty cheap .

The think , what is one thing to give a Wow -- a point of difference ? Thats where you get creative . Maybe a modern sculpture , maybe a willow tree , maybe a water feature . NOT a bird bath , or a frame or arch with a climbing rose . Please don't do them .

The other change to consider depending on layout is bring front door to the front.

Clare, this house used to look more like yours. That changed the laid back hip hoof with a gable over the garage which really modernised look. The front door and porch and landscaping not to mention diff windows and render, it was a 50s brick bungalow.

I think simply landscaping the front would add curb appeal. if you design some garden to look good from the road and screen the house somewhat it would look good. A showy small tree, something that changes colour in its leaves or bursts into blossom would look really gorgeous. Classic old style plants like camellias, magnolias, gardenias, jasmine, bulbs like lillies, jonquils, and iris. if there is nothing drawing you into the front yard, ie entryway or seating or patio you could plant out the whole front quite densely and create a dramatic display. Bulbs are somewhat set and forget... Something you can admire from the front, as you walk in and from inside the house. You could remove all the lawn and plant out with a little loop of paving for access.

Hi Clare, the house has great potential. Aluminium cladding around the entrance or as a feature façade could add a modern look and create a stronger focal point. A few plants and outdoor lights would further enhance the curb appeal.
